Hello everyone, I am new to this site. I had my procedure done February 20, 2012 & have lost 84 lbs. I have been having issues lately with getting hiccups about 20 minutes after I have finished eating that ends up leading me to throwing up. Has anyone else had issues with hiccups?

By chance are you eating too fast or/and too big of bites? Does this happen everytime you eat? Btw, great job on your weight loss thus far!!!

Welcome & congratulations on your success. I was also banded in February. I find hiccups are a soft stop for me, but I get them while I'm eating & not 20 minutes later.

One thing that I discovered I was starting to do was not following the band eating rules like I should. I was eating too big a bits and too fast causing a lot of discomfort after the meal. You might see if that is what is causing the hiccups and the throwing up. I would also suggest asking your doctor.

Good luck to you.

Welcome. I agree with the two posts above. You may have become so used to your band you are taking bigger bites. That does it to me every time. Good luck and welcome to the board!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Quite a few folks get hiccups as a sign they are full. Is it possible you're overeating?

I get shoulder pain when I'm nearing full and if I take even one more bite,it becomes severe.

Some ppl cough , get a runny nose or just sighs. All little signs of being full.

If you don't think that is it, it's time to see your Dr.

Good luck!

I really do not think over eating is the problem. I only eat about 1/2 cup of food. I had a fill back in November that was tight & I got dehydrated & passed out after 2 days before being able to get in to see the Dr to have some taken out. I have good days & bad days to where I can not hold anything down no matter what I try, even liquids some days. I have a follow up appt scheduled for Jan 8th.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
