Mis73 is right, sound like you need to check with your Dr.

Good Luck!

I can check with my PA, but I haven't seen or heard from my surgeon since he discharged me 3 years ago! I don't know, there seems to always be a new issue with the lap band. Too tight, too loose, food stuck, vomiting, yikes! Now, I enter the bonus round with the reflux! Thanks for replying!

Sorry you're having so many problems. I hope you can find some answers. So it's your PA that gives you your fills? Keep us posted on what you find out, it could help someone else. Good Luck!

PA only does fills at my facility. I don't feel that these things are just happening to me. I think they are very common among many.

I'm thankful I haven't had acid reflux since 3 days after my surgery.

I suffered from acid reflux since I was 14... it went away 3 days after I was banded (age 39) and I didn't have a hernia. I was self-pay and if I had known the band would have gotten rid of my acid reflux or reduced it and I would maybe not help me lose weight I think I would still be happy.

Tom, Toronto

Banded July 6 06

Wt. Loss: 156 lbs

I was told by my surgeon that in many cases acid reflux becomes worse after banding. This was not the case until my last fill. Maybe an unfill, but I doubt I can get in before the holidays. Home remedies until then, I guess!

I was banded about a year ago. 2 months ago , I started with the most awful night-time reflux. Felt like I was burning my esophagus and my new little stomach. Called surgeon, sent me to ER. They gave me IV Nexium.... oooohhhh felt so good! Did x-rays to check band. Removed a small amount of Fluid from band, 1/4 cc.( Surgeon put me on daily Nexium). Almost instant relief...... drank some Water, soft foods for 24 hours and then saw surgeon in 2 weeks . He put the 1/4 cc back in. Since then, fine and still losing weight at a good pace.

I was afraid of band slippage or that the burning would damage my stomach so I was happy to take care of the situation right away...

Thank you for that reply. I am glad you got some help! I just called the facility in Duluth Mn that did my procedure to see if I could get an unfill. Sure, on January 26 2013! I explained to them how bad it had gotten but that is their first appointment! Yikes! Now I will call my primary and maybe check on some Nexium! Thanks again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
