Port Incision Painful and Hard

Recommended Posts

I will call my doc but wanted to see if anyone has thoughts on this. I'm 9 days post op and my port incision has become a bit painful. I don't think it's red and it's not oozing. But about two days ago I noticed it felt hard underneath.

I'm 10 days post op and mine is still swollen and hard. I think it just takes time for your body to accept it.

For 7wks my port site would bulge in and out and even now at 9 wks every once in awhile it will.

Especially when I'm doing a lot of bending. Still gets just a little sore too. The port is sewn into a muscle and that swells up & down for a while. That will be the site that takes the longest to heal.

As long as the incision is not red,or infected you should be ok. On Monday just give your Drs office a call for reassurance.

Yes, that is the one that takes the longest to heal. It will be sore longer and be more painful than others. I don't think mine felt ok for at least a month or more. Even at my six week appt, the doc reassured me I still had swelling and it would get better. Again, feel free to call doc.

Hope your recovery is going well.

I'm 7 weeks post op. mine took a few weeks to stop hurting, and every once in awhile if I bend over a certain way I get a sharp pain. Also if one of my kids is sitting on my lap and lean back on it it gets a little sore. I think this is normal, I mention to my doctor and she didn't seem concerned.

candy, have you removed your steri-strips yet? I was told to do so on Day 5, at which point it became obvious where my port incision was.

Do we all have five incisions sites? I didn't know if I was different because I had a major stomach surgery last year and already have a large scar in the middle of my stomach????

Hang in there GF! You're only getting started and things will get better and this is not the time for losing, but healing. I promise you'll be happy in a short time.

Thank you for sharing. I am 9 days post-op. and the port has been itching and hurting. Just figured in time it would get better.

You're absolutely correct. Itching means healing and the port site stays sore for some time.

Most likely that is your port. It stay sore for awhile and it feels like a big knot under your skin,

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
