Pre-Made vs Whey Protein Powder

Recommended Posts

Not to spark a huge debate but I'm really struggling to decide what will be best for me post surgery. I'm having surgery on Wednesday and I haven't had to do a liquid diet preop.

My doctor suggested SF carnation instant Breakfast and a drink like Ensure or the premade Atkins drinks. I'm just nervous about not getting enough Protein. Did anyone else's surgeon suggest this?

I also need something convenient and that I can pick up at a Walmart or GNC as ill need it for the end of the week. Suggestions please??

Walmart has premade and powders. In the long term powder is cheaper. I recommend you try Almond milk with the powders. Very low calorie (unsweetened) and good in both plain and vanilla. GNC also allows returns on powder if it does not work for you... At least mine does.

I didn't like powered now I do EAS pre made in different Protein levels and always in chocolate lol. I love the premade and keep a few in my car just in case I need something just to get me home.

well, all dr's are different. mine said no to ensure etc. i chose to extreme whey (from walmart) that is 29 grams per scoop and delish. i still drink one every single morning. (its that good). sometimes i freeze mine to slush (like wendys).....

just try one til you find what you like

Cytosport vanilla powder is good.

Unjury has the best taste.

A hint for powder which I haven't seen mentioned is to mix it with warm Water and then chill it. Seems to blend much better.

My Unjury sample kit came in today. I really hope it tastes ok. Have you tried the cheese sauce?

I can get Unjury in a local store but they don't carry the cheese sauce. I will have to order it direct.

My local nutrition store only has vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

When I get the cheese sauce, I will let you know.

I went ahead a bought a package of the cheese sauce. I guess I'll try it this weekend. I actually got it for when I can eat normal foods again. Some days I just don't want meat so I'm hoping to add it to veggies and still get Protein.

Also going to try vanilla shake in the morning. I've struggled with shakes. One all natural brand literally made me hurl after only one sip. I also worry about the X-ray after surgery. Barium has also made me throw up.

Mike- hope you are healing well.

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has come out with a cheese flavored Protein powder. I haven't seen it in person but according to the website, it is like the cheese sauce in a box of mac. & cheese. It has 20+ grams of Protein per serving and you can use it as a dip, pour it over veggies or whole wheat Pasta. My nutritionist sais it is salty to the taste but I would like to see for myself.

Will be ordering once I can start to eat again.

I think the first powder I tried was Protizyme Peanut Butter Cookie. After a week of liquid dieting, this was like a G D party in my mouth. The other flavors (strawberry, vanilla, choc) not so great.

Nancy/Mike

I tried the cheese last night. I used it with Brussels sprouts. It was good. Tasted like fake cheese but not bad. With the sprouts which are strong in flavor it was good. It suggests it as a dip but idk about that as it would be the primary flavor and I personally wouldn't use it as queso. But i'll use it with veggies when i just dont feel like having meat. I think it can only be ordered online. Hope this is helpful.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
