Band Slippage, No Symptoms?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible for a band to slip due to over eating but for the patient to not have any symptoms? Everything I read seems to say there would be symptoms.

Also, is there an "average" time frame for a band to slip, post surgery (i.e. would it not be unheard of for a band to have slipped within the first 3, 6 or 12 months of surgery)? I'm not really concerned about anything past a year at this point.

Please comment if you can offer any responses, on point to my concerns/questions. Thanks.

I really doubt that the band has slipped without symptoms.

My doctor didn't think my band has slipped because I was only eight months post-op. I also had no symptoms other than severe pain after vomiting two times. After the second episode of pain necessitating a complete unfill, I had a barium swallow and had indeed slipped.

My doctor said I was the earliest slip his clinic had ever seen. I don't think he believes that I only vomited twice!

Yes your band can slip and from what my Doctor told me it just happens to a few folks. I have had my band for two years this December and have lost 88 lbs. The symptoms I had was nausea, vomiting and a slight fever. I had to be hospitalized for three days. My doctor removed all the Fluid from my band and will not refill it until February. This happened on November 20, 2012. I thought I would lose my mind without my band but since I now have to let my stomach heal before he can replace the Fluid I continue to eat the small amount of food I was eating before. He also told me to begin working out so I hired a Personal Trainer to meet with twice a week to make sure I don't gain. I am determined to be smaller when I go weigh in on January 14, 2013. I am not going to ruin all the hard work I have put in at this point because I love the way I currently look and can't wait to get the rest of this weight off for good. I hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
