When To Start Looking Into This...

Recommended Posts

I am about half way to goal and hope to be there by summer. I WANT a tummy tuck!!!! After 4 kids (including twins that weighed 14lbs combined) things are a little messy there! I'm ready to go now but I think they will send me away.

Also this may seem like an odd question but in thinking about my Hosp weight I'm wondering how much weight the actial Tummy Tuck takes off?

Honestly think I should adjust my goal for that!

I just scheduled mine for December. I am 2 lbs from goal and 12 lbs from my stretch goal. My Dr said it depends on how much skin you have but mine wouldnt be 5-6 lbs he didnt think.

My surgeon says I'll lose at least 15 pounds from the Tummy Tuck I'm getting this spring. Possibly even as much as 20. Yes, I have *that* much gross excess skin.

The closer you are to your goal weight the better results you'll have.

I'm also desperate to get mine removed, but I'm biding my time until the spring when I'll have lost more. I figure I can live like this awhile longer if doing so means I'll have the best results.

I am betting banded on 12/18 … I told my hubby that if I get all 95 pounds off by next Christmas I want new boobies! LOL!! :D I don't know how much excess skin I'll have, but I am pretty sure my 42Ds will shrink and sag. Thank goodness for all these options! I think talking to surgeons once you are within 10 pounds of your goal would help to motivate that final loss of 10 pounds.

I go for my band consult Tuesday and will address this as well. I need to know for insurance purposes if there is anything I need to be working on

I had abdominal plasty (August 1, 2012) I had lost 210 pounds and had a lot of loose skin on my stomach. I lost 6.2 pounds of skin in the surgery. There was so much loose skin, the dr did a long incision up and down and also from side to side. I went to see my dr for a hernia repair and he removed the skin during that surgery. My surgeon was awesome. Insurance would not cover any cosmetic surgery, and instead of me having an out of pocket expense, he donated his time to do the abdominal plasty. I already needed the hernia repair that was covered in insurance, so the room was paid for, anthesia was needed and covered, etc. My dr got paid for the hernia repair and did the rest for free. He knew I had loss of self esteem due to my appearance with all the loose skin and helped me out with it. I am grateful for him as I am so happy in my body now. I still need more work, but insurance is not going to cover it. My legs have a lot of skin, but I will have to deal with that as there is no way I can get the 8 thousand to get it done. I weighed 180 when I had my surgery and now am at 160.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
