Not Sure If I Am Getting Enough Calories

Recommended Posts

When my husband and I had surgery we were told that we need to consume around 800 calories a day-we have been trying to stay as close to that as we can, but I am not seeing the weight come off as fast as I think it should. Should we get in more calories, if so how much for each of us?

Stats--

Me-- height 6'1" starting weight 259 current weight 220 surgery date 1/19/12

My husband—height 6'1" starting weight 306 current weight 257 surgery date 1/19/12

Thanks,

Becky

I would say more calories but you really need to discuss with your physician and your nutritionist. I consistently ate between 1000-1200 calories for 2 years and lost 122 lbs but everyone is different. How much Protein are you getting each day? Most bandsters do best with high protein intake 70gms or better for consistent weight loss.

How nice you have been banded together and are sharing the journey. Personally my dr wanted me not to drop below 1000 calories... But there were times early on that I had a hard time eating that amount... But as I learned to live with the band I would tweak it every once in a while to move the scales... But overall I did 1000 calories a day because I felt good with that number. I would check with the dr to be sure but I would think 1000 - 1200 calories might suit you both

Thanks for the advice, we talked to the Dr. office they said it would be fine to up the calorie intake. We are now shooting for around 1200. I honestly have not tracked my Protein, so I am going to start doing that to see how much I am getting in.

Thanks again for the help.

Protein is key to WL with lapband, MFP is another good free app or Spark People. I track everything but I am very OCD.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
