I had my psych eval. today & I thought it went well. I was hoping to be done with this step in the process, but I also have to take a personality assessment. Have any of you been through this? I'm nervous, because I don't know what personality traits they're looking for.

My personality assessment was 400 questions that you answer 1 thru 5 being true, some what true, mostly true, not true at all.

It would keep asking you the same questions in different ways like, do you drink in the morning, you like bow and arrows, before you go to work to you need a drink or drugs, do you get along with your family, do you make yourself throw up to lose weight, do you rely on drug & drinking to get through your day. They would throw in goofy questions like the bow and arrow to make sure your paying attention.

Get the picture, nothing to worry about, just answer to the best of your ability.

All the testing will help them create a plan for you that will work long term. Just answer honestly, you can't go wrong.

Mine was pretty lengthy... Random questions about behaviors, coping, dealing with stress... Relationship with food... Drug use, alcohol consumption.....that sort of thing. Just answer them honestly. I don't think there are any wrong answers.... Maybe just red flags the therapist can discuss with you

I asked the guy doing mine why am i here exactly? He said Just making sure you are doing this for the right reasons and that you don't have a deeper issue that needs assest before surgery.

My favorite questions were "do you hear voices?" "Do the voices tell you to do things?" "Do you think someone is out to hurt you?" The voices in my head told me not to tell you someone was out to get me.

I had a 4 hour appt. The session and the test. It was almost 700 true false questions!!!!! I swear it would have driven me to do all the things they mentioned. I really became agitated because they keep asking the same question over and over and over again!.. arghhhhh... but.. there is nothong to it.. just to make sure you dont have an underlying issue that may need to be resolved.

The psychologist ticked me off though. She doesnt like the lap band at all and tried to sway me to switch. She told me that most fail and im not guaranteed to lose weight like the other. Not even remotely interested. I am working hard now and will contjnue to work hard then. The data thats out generalizes everyone. The people who do succeed get their results washed up with the majority who dont. Good luck to you on your journey!!!!

Don't worry ~ you will probably do just fine. I've worked in psych for 33 years and even I was nervous ... LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
