I am getting the Lapband surgery on November 19th, and was wondering if anyone can give me any advice or news they heard about adding the plication? I am supposed to let me doctor know this week if I want to do the plication or not, I have heard good things about it but it makes me nervous that there are no long term studies in the US about this, any help? Please

What is plication? It has never come up in anything I have learned about Lap Band.

It's where they "fold" the bottom half of your stomach "in half" and stich it in place. It's kinda like a sleeve...but no cutting of the actual stomach. Don't know if I explained it well.

Yep, Carolinagirl had it, you can shoot her a message, really nice, or she will probably answer on here soon.

hi, just got on here and saw plication..

yes i had it june 6th and am down exactly 80 as of today

its an extra tool to help the band and my surgeon stressed that if i dont eat healthy, or more than my allotted cup

then it wont help.....it helps me feel full and at 5 months, i have not needed a fill.

highly recommend it...any questions, give me a shot :)

I had band with plication in late May. In 5 months I'm down 40 lbs. I've had 2 small fills. I feel the plication is just another tool to help me.

I had lap band with plication a year ago. Very happy, no complications. It is like getting two surgeries for one! My doc has had great success with it!

I had lap band with plication and I would do it again in a heart beat. I've lost 66 pounds since may 24, 2012. I've had no complications with it.

So the part of the stomach that gets folded over is the part that signals hunger and communicates with the brain. That is the part that gets removed with the sleeve. Plication works as an added tool because it muffles the screams to eat more food that your brain hears. I had never heard about this until after my band. This is the only info I know about the sleeve because I asked my surgeon at my last appointment to explain it to me.

And Dr Coirin doesn't do it. I asked at my first appointment. Although in my case it doesn't really matter since my insurance won't cover it anyways.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
