Do You Count Calories? How Many???

Recommended Posts

I went for my first post-op check-up...right at two weeks...this past Wednesday. It was a wonderful appointment. I have lost 12 pounds since my last appointment three almost four weeks ago. I am doing well from the surgery too...He did caution me about losing too quickly and to get that Protein in. BUT~~~I also asked him about the amount of calories I should be taking in. He said around 1,100 to 1,200 a day...BUT~~~I am consuming way less...around 700 to 900 per day.

I am getting in all my good stuff--protein and all, but I am really struggling getting in more than that amount of calories with good healthy foods. I just don't eat all that much at a time and I am full for several hours after too.

So....my question is that if YOU count calories, how many do you feel is a good amount for you each day?

Love ya!

I stay under 1000 I rarely go over. At three years out I pretty much know how many I am eating. I eat high Protein foods and it is fine. I dont so much worry about carbs. I only eat veggies as carbs and sometimes drink V-8 because I dont get enough. I feel fine though and all my Vitamin levels are fine so I will eat this way.

WTG!

I am going to start counting calories tomorrow when I begin the pureed food stage. So far I have been eating very little and it has all been liquids.

I was told to eat 1000 to 1200 calories.

My first post op appt is on Nov. 2nd. I am looking forward to it because I want to get the clearance to go back to the gym.

What did the doc say about losing weight too fast? I have not been eating that much lately, which I know is not good, but due to my job, just time and all that fun stuff, I've not been eating that much.

I have been eating solid food since four days out from my surgery. I haven't had a problem eating. My doctor said that he wanted to me to lose no more than 2 pounds a week.

I find it so funny that so many doctors has such different means in which to acclimate their patients back to real food. Mine said for me to try each stage two to three days and go in small stages with bulking up my food. That is why I was able to do pretty much all foods within four to six days. I feel very blessed to NOT have any problems eating any food types. He also said that as long as I am losing a couple of pounds each week, he would not do a fill unless I felt the need to really have one. If I can lose without a fill then I am happy with that!

Thank you all for your input on my situation!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
