Stomach Pain

Recommended Posts

This is my first post on this website and I hope I'm doing this correctly. Okay here is my story. Please don't judge. I've had the lap band for approximately 5 years. I originally lost 50 pounds and have subsequently gained 50 pounds. On Tuesday I started getting a dull ache in my stomach. While my 8 year old got sick that day with the stomach flu, I really don't think this is the pain I'm feeling. It feels centered around my port. And it travels down my stomach. I have a very large pannus. I do throw up often because I don't eat properly. We don't have insurance and barely make it. I made an appt to have a fluroscopy to check things out but the idea of the $250 was too much. I thought perhaps it would go away. It hasn't gone away and its painful. Does anyone know if this could be a slippage or possibly erosion? Has anyone else had these symptoms? Additional information is that yes I can eat and drink just fine. I had been constipated for a few days but then things "got moving" so I don't think its Constipation. I did start trying to cut back on carbs and sugar and wondered if my body was in shock. My solution? Start eating crap again for the last 2 days which hasn't changed things either. I know I'm not the model LapBand citizen and haven't been for many years. Does anyone know what could be going on with this stomach pain? Any thoughts? (please don't be too critical of me because I do it to myself every day).

Thank you,

Michelle

You should definitely get it check because it could very well be a slipage or erosion. Many fall back hun, the thing is don't beat yourself up over it, you do bad one day, get right back up and stay on track. It's never to late to start. and you also may need a fill.

Well, this is what I know and would do. I work with a girl who is 3 years from her original banding, she did lose 90% of her weight but she lost it not the healthiest way. She was constantly allowing her band to be to tight and she would vomit and spit up frequently. 3 weeks ago she started having abdominal pain and it had come to the point she could hardly tolerate any solid foods and only small amounts of liquids. She had a fluro exam and it reveled that her band had slipped and her stomach pouch had pulled through the band and was ganging over the band. When she would eat, the food would go into the pouch that was hanging over the band and the pain would come from the stomach trying to push the food back up through the band. I understand this exam is expensive but if your band has slipped there are more serious consequences. Maybe the hospital will allow you to make payments on the procedure. I am not going to lecture you on what you eat or why this has happened because it sounds to me like you are beating yourself up enough. I hope you can get the help you need and can get your head in the right place so you can lose the weight you desire to lose. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I've put myself on a liquid diet to see if it makes a difference. I will make an appt this week with the lap band doctor.

      tl:dr at bottom,
I could use some advice. I went to see my dietician today (not a bariatric surgery dietician, I can explain why I am seeing her if you want to know). She knows I am going to have weight loss surgery as long as I hit the goal weight my insurance told me I need to be at. I have to be at the goal weight by June 24, 2023, in order for my insurance to pay for my surgery.
I had a weigh in the doctor's office a couple of days ago and weighed 301, my scale at home said 302. However, on the same day, the scale at a friend's house said 313.
I knew I had this Dietician appointment two days later and I knew she would weigh me. I continued to weigh myself at home (after getting new batteries) and I was at 302 then 299 and today at home I weighed 303, right before my appointment, when I got to her office I was weighed and it said 313.
I am concerned about what to believe since the doctor's office and my scale show similar numbers. I also bought a new scale today and it said 313.
The Dietician told me I needed to eat more protein, which honestly I struggle with. she said I needed 150 grams!!  I said are you kidding? that seems like a lot.  She used my weight to come up with this number.
Should I really be trying to eat enough protein for a 300-lb person or should I be eating protein for a goal-weight person (mine is 170)?
also, my clothing is loose like I lost the 20 lbs mine and the doctor's scale shows, and not 10 lbs like everyone else's scale shows. Also, I have always naturally been more muscular even when I was 120 lbs and did not eat any protein aside from what is in plants.
tl:dr- should I be eating enough protein to support a 300lb person or should I be eating protein for a "normal" sized person? AND should I trust the Doctors scale more so than the Dietician's scale?

        Hi!

I would love to be your accountability partner. I had the sleeve in 2021, so maybe I can give you some insights.

Please message me back, looking forward to hearing from you!
