Banded On The 17Th Of October

Recommended Posts

It's wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 36 year old mother of two, living in Texas. Surgery was this past Wednesday. Still feeling pretty sore and am supposed to go back to work on Monday. Hope I can do it, I haven't even attempted driving yet. I also had a hiatal hernia that was repaired--anyone else have this or knows if this slows down the recovery time?? Glad I found this forum and look forward to reading more about our journey!

Im in Corpus and was actually supposed to travel to Dallas this weekend but had to cancel my trip because i was in too much pain to sit in a car for 8 hours. I woke up this morning still sore but I'm starting to feel better as I walk around. Hopefully it will only get better from here. I cant wait to feel normal again too!!!! Good for you on making it til halftime!! It is challenging with the kids. My 4 year old says he misses laying down with me because i'm "soft"!! haha not for long

I know I can't really lay in my bed yet I got in it yesterday pretty easy then couldn't get out ... I've been sleeping in the recliner... But it works. I had the hernia as well, my best advice is to keep moving I just went for a walk around the block and it felt good.... My side started to hurt a little so I stopped at the block ... Don't over do it but definatley keep moving it makes all the difference .. And no a car ride for 8 hours that would be awful! Look forward to talking with you... We can do this!

I had my surgery yesterday morning and I was out shopping last night.

I also had a hernia repaired.

Was also shopping this morning.

I havent had to take any pain killers yet and I have very little gas pain in my shoulder.

I didnt expect it to be this easy.

I am so jealous of y'all who are feeling great. I was banded oct 22 w hiatal hernia repair a d I feel like a truck hit me. Dr said no driving for 4 weeks! No lifting baby for 6 weeks. I'm at NYU and they're pretty famous so I trust them. But man, I'm in a whole lotta pain.

Take your pain meds and rest (if you can). I know some people on here have been more comfortable on a recliner, but i didnt have any trouble sleeping in bed. As for the gas pain, my hubby rubbed my back and that helped get a lot of gas out. I also sat in a rocker and that seemed to help too!!! Hope you feel better soon!

So I was banded oct 22 and I just re read my post op diet orders. 6 glasses of fluids. 2 Protein Shakes. I can have Tomato Soup, broth, juice etc. the thing is, I feel SO full just taking my meds and a few sips of Water. Until tonight I just had juice and after. So tonight I made some watered down Tomato Soup. I kid you not: I dipped the spoon and licked it off 5 times and I feel stuffed to the gills like the worst thanksgiving ever. I know this surgery is supposed to make you feel full fast. But this is crazy. I'm hoping I can digest and get more comfortable because I need to take 2 tsp of medicine and that seems lie a huge volume. I think I'm gonna call my dr tomorrow to make sure this is normal. I don't want to get dehydrated. It's just post op day 2. Anyone have this experience?

Hi! I was banded a year ago and had a hernia repaired too. In my case my Dr. gave me 4 weeks off, he said he didnt want me lifting heavy objects or wanted my incision to get infected.

I was banded this morning. So far pretty good. I can't get my mouth wet enough it's so dry. No gas pains at this time. Only real pain is the large cut where port is.

I was banded Jan. 30 and had hiatal hernia repair. If you are large breasted, take the bra off! Your incision from the hernia repair will heal much quicker. The pain from the hernia repair lasted longer then the band. Give it a couple more days. I had to wait six weeks for strenuous exercise. Drink a lot!

Hello! Congrats! Wouldn't you know it that obese people get hiatal hernias?! I had mine repaired too. I had surgery 10/5 and went back to work ( desk job) 10/8. I did pretty well but everyone is different. I did nothing at home after work though because I was so tired!

Welcome to the group. Keep us posted on your journey.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
