Surgery Was A Success!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am due to have surgery on the 26th. I've lost 25 pounds during the past floor months, and now my kids don't want me to have surgery. they say I can do this on my own and that surgery is cheating. They also say that out will be awful to have to live with these restrictions for the rest of my life. i'm now having doubts. Can anyone relate?

Yes I can totally relate. I'm having doubts again, maybe because this is my 7th day on a liquid diet and i'm starving. I keep wondering why I can't do this on my own (so I can eat) and also - do I want to spend the rest of my life worrying about getting stuck and not chewing enough and food restrictions.....?? On the other hand I decided to have this surgery in the first place because I know I can lose some weight, probably not all of it, but then I will fall off the wagon and put it all back on just like I always do. I also want to quit taking a lot of the medication I am taking. So my question to me, do you want to be slim and healthy or just continue on like you have for most of your life?

What made you want the surgery in the first place and has that changed? Will you keep the 25 pounds off and keep losing?

You and I have almost identical stats and goal. What you said makes a lot of sense.I have lost weight many times before, and here I am at an all time high, with sleep apnea, four herniated disks, and knee pain. If I could keep the weight off, I would have done it. aside from the health benefits,I would like to have one summer when I don't cry putting on a bathing suit... It just hurts to have this ordeal characterized as cheating. One son likened it to having an answer sheet for a test, and not putting in the effort to study! I know I need to make my own decision, but I didn't expect to have doubts this close to the surgery!

So far I can't see why anyone would think this is cheating! Maybe if your son went 14 days on a liquid diet, then the pain of surgery, then the thought of having to chew your food a thousand times before you can swallow, not to mention you will have diet restrictions where you didn't before, then maybe he wouldn't think it was cheating! :)

I said to my husband yesterday that getting the band will make me healthy which will make me live longer. I said in this day and age - what's the point? His answer to me was "watching your grandchildren grow up, get married and have babies of their own would make it worth it". Wise man

I had surgery October 18, I'm in no pain tolerating liquids well!!! I'm in a little discomfort where my port is. My blood pressure is the lowest it's been in years!!! I had no nausea, I'm up walking around!!! I'm soooo glad I had this surgery. My doctor did discover I did have a hiatal hernia, which he removed!!! I can't wait to see my progress in a few months and start to exercise! !!

Congrats welcome to the family. I'm only 11 days out but I feel the best I have in a week. Not taking any pain meds anymore. Once again congratulations and good luck.

Definetly. I backed out of this surgery about 16 months ago. Now I'm scheduled for next Monday the 29th. I've always been able to lose weight on my own. Even lost 85lbs once but I've never been able to maintain. I always ended up gaining back all the weight plus some! Only you can decide what's best for you. I'm sure the kids are just worried. My boys kinda said the same thing to me. I explained to them that this has been a life long battle for me, I've tried countless diets that never work and I need help and I think they understand & feel better about it. Good luck

What happened after you backed out? Did you lose weight and then put it back on I assume? I have been having those strong doubts again. I am also scheduled for the 29th and have been on my liquid diet since last Monday. I am down 10 pounds. I started thinking last night that I didn't want to do this. I am glad I saw your post on here. I just don't know if I want to spend my life with the diet restrictions. I am so confused!

Ya. Maintaining the weight loss is the hardest for me. I kinda feel like the restrictions to our diet will be minimal once we achieve "goal" weight. But it's gonna be a long journey for me to get there cuz I need to lose about 130lbs! Lol. I wish you the best in what ever decision you make. Keep us posted.

Have you thought of plication at all? I've been back and forth too, my date is dec3. I started a thread leaning towed

Plication because it has way less restriction than lb and I am confused as well. No one replied though:(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
