Anybody go to Dr. Spivak?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I don't really have any answers because I am new to this too, but hungry! I had Dr. S too, 3/29/06. We are in the same boat or life savor as I call this thing. I am hungry too, lost about 10 but really had to fight to keep it off the 2nd week. I live iin Pearland- how about you?

Officially, I live in Conroe. I'm half way between I-45 & Hwy 59 though closer to New Caney. My son used to live in Pearland and I lived in Sagemont during high school so I'm familiar with your area.

I'm having hunger pains too. I go in to the SurgiCenter the first week of May for my first fill, so maybe that will help but the loosing has been slow as I can't stick to 4oz. food. Walking on the treadmill though! Stelis2

I can't paste my ticker and when I type it in it doesn't work.

Karen, I had my first fill on April 6 also. What time was your appointment? Maybe I saw you and didn't know it! I have not felt any restriction this week and have not lost any weight either, but would love more of a fill. I got 1.5 in a 10cc band. How much did you get?

It was for 10am. The techs were trying to do it when Spivak walked in. My port is a little sideways and she was trying to figure out which way to put it in. Spivak walked in, looked at it and went straight to the port. I am glad he was there b/c I was nervous enough. I got 1.3cc in a 10cm band. I agree, I am ready for more. When was your appointment? Wasn't too bad was it?

My appointment was at 11am so we must have just missed each other. Too bad. The fill went great, just a little "stick" and that was it. I just wish I had gotten more fill. I have not lost any weight since then. I wonder how soon he would do another? I know he is on vacation now, but I'm gonna call and see if I can make an appointment for when he returns.

Hope you had a great Easter. The weather was gorgeous!

so, did they let you schedule another fill?

i was filled a week ago today, no restriction has "kicked in" but the girl who did the fill told me to come back in two weeks if i had no restriction or if i was not losing weight...or if i was superhungry. (umm, all of the above at one week?)

i want to call, but not if they are going to tell me to wait a little longer.

I just called and they told me to come in on May 3 at 9:15. I could have gotten in next week, but will be out of town.

I feel like I'm in the same boat. I was filled (2nd fill) on 3/29 with 1.7cc. According to the screen when I drank that lovely drink, I have great restriction. I even felt pretty restricted for about a week. There are a few things that I can't eat (mostly bread stuff). However, I'm always hungry. I try to eat Protein first. I know I'm not exercising enough. I expected to lose weight by not eating at first and then to need to exercise to keep losing weight. I was banded on 2/4 and I haven't lost even 10 pounds. That can't be right. I scheduled a fill for 5/1 at 12:00. I hope that helps.:faint:

hey today i went for my 3rd fill with spivak. this is what i have learned. the new tech works on wednesday. i think i will only go to her from now on she really took time to listen. she took exrays before to make sure my pouch was not stretched. i had 1.8 and after begging she gave me 2.4

i say lets get the show on the road and start loosing. she also gave me a few tips that i did totally wrong. i was under the empression that if i ate Soup and lots of Water, drinks. the weigt would coem off. but she explaine that Soups go straight through and that is why i have restricition and hunger. so it is Protein and veg. since i only lost .2 pounds in 3 weeks. also the nurse and tech said spivak will fill you ever 3 weeks if you follow the rules. i am excited again . i was wondering if i had made a mistake.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
