Should I Do Plication With My Lapband.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I posted this is another thread but only got a few responses. I am considering getting Plication with my Lapband after having it recommended by my surgeon. I am a young patient (20) and was told it will help with future slippage, I won't need as many fills and I may have better weight loss. Any feedback would be great!

Thanks :)

Mandy

There are several folks on here who have this procedure. I am not one of them. I just have the band and have been very successful. Best of luck as you consider your options

I had Lapband with plication in May. I've had 2 small fills. I'm happy with my weight loss so far and I'm glad I got the plication. Let me know if you want more info or have questions! ;)

I had the plication, I'm only 2 weeks out, but I'm still happy I did it. Anything to help with weight loss is a good idea to me.

I hate to sound silly, but what is a Plication? I am just starting to do my research and have my pre-op seminar on Oct 30 and consult on Oct 31. I don't know a lot about the procedure...

I am also considering the band with plication. Can anyone please tell me how the recovery was with plication? I am set for banding on 10/31/12

Recovery for me was the same as what I heard from people who just had the band (and no plication). I stayed 1 night in hospital. By day 4-5 I was feeling a lot better. I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work the following Monday.

Plication is a procedure where the stomach is folded in on itself. It's similar to the sleeve, but without removing part of the stomach. Here's a link about the band w/ plication surgery.

I was feeling good a few days after surgery, banded on Thursday and off pain pills by Sunday.

Thanks you all so much for the great feedback. I was a little nervous when the doctor brought up adding Plication but knowing its a commonly done operation makes me feel better. The nurse at my office said the pain and recovery is no different than the regular Lapband surgery and takes only 10 more mins. My biggest concern from the beginning was slippage of the band (since 25% of bands slip) so if this could help that, I would feel a lot better. I am set to banded November 12th!! :) Very excited but the nerves are starting to set in. Thank you all again.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I have read and heard that plication with the band might become standard procedure someday. Together, the combo is also called an I-Band (imbricated band). From what I have seen and heard, the plication alone can help with serious weightloss. Then after this alone has ran it's course, that is when the band starts getting fills. Also, the plication can help prevent slippage.

that seems very interesting.. that link says that insurance doesn't cover? did you all have to pay extra for the plication? I am a bit fascinated!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
