Officially Banded Today W/important Question!

Recommended Posts

Today is the day of the beginning of my new life. :D

I was banded today and in all honesty apart from the pain in the port area and just below, which I am thinking is gas, I am not in pain. I have been walking around a bit while I am up, no problem there and drinking/sipping my h20.

I have a question though, my surgeon told me that he already filled me. HUH? Since I was half out of it when he told me I wanted to question him about it, but then he was gone. Asked the nurse and she did confirm with me that they had filled me. Has anyone heard of this before or had it happen to them?

I am to be on full liquid for the next 2 weeks.

Some doctors put a little fill in there. Mine did, but I don't know how much. Some doctors don't want us caught up on the amount of fill, but it's my body and I plan on asking on Monday! Good luck to you!

yes, I asked my doctor the SAME question; he said that ALL lap bands MUST be "primed" during the surgery. He put 1 cc in my band ~ good luck

My doctor put 3cc in at the time of band placement. It was great, but you do still get hungry about week 3. Or at least I did.

my doc said 3cc.

As I had never read about this being done before, I was a little concerned.

thanks to all for you responses. I am really dozing off and on right now. -_-

My dr also put 3cc in my band at the time of surgery. That is his normal process, but I ended up being so tight that I got dehydrated. Now I'm glad that my body is so sensitive to fills, but at the time, it was torture!

Deevee, I wouldn't be at all concerned. As far as I know I didn't have anything in my band at the time of surgery but I don't think it would have mattered. I felt full all the time for the first 3-4 weeks (probably from inflamation). Even had to remind myself to eat. I am now 2 months out and just had my 2nd fill last week (first was 2 weeks earlier) and to be honest I am not aware of any change at all! The APRN told me most people in their practice aren't even aware of fills till the 3rd or 4th one.

Best of luck with your journey!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
