Learning To Chew

How to handle eating out with friends:

How many times have you sat across from friends at a restaurant and looked at them while they spoke to you? I have learned to take the focus off of the food and made it about the socializing. ( I have weekly business lunches and a few social events in the 2 little weeks I've been banded) I sit there with my bowl of Soup and thoroughly enjoy the conversations. Those around me think I'm just eating slow because I'm paying so close attention to them. Body language is everything. Nice smile shoulders back and they'll never know the difference.

No, to be in our gulping intervention, it has to be healthy gulping, you crazy ppb!

I might not qualify b/c I'm sipping, just too frequently.

PG might be the only member.

And yes PG, she did. The crazy ppb that she is.

LOL

I wonder the same thing... Also' date=' I wonder about drinking... I drink Water in HUGE gulps... I drink alot of water... Can i keep doing that? Does gulping a drink hurt? How does all that work..

I am being banded on Nov 6th... I am also 35. We should be friends. Keep each other motivated. Check on each others progress.

My dr said no gulping ever again. It will always be sips. He said the esophagus will stretch over time from drinking too fast. And you may not even know until you have a big problem

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
