Recommended Posts

Another happy Dr. Aceves patient here! I'm so so happy! Everyone at the hospital was wonderful, the doctor was fantastic, I've healed great, my first fill went well (once I stopped nearly passing out!)

I was banded 6 days ago by Dr. Huacuz. My wife and were picked up at the airport. I was given a battery of tests and had surgery the same day.

I was dressed, and walking around at 10 AM the next morning. I was sore at the stiches, but that was it. I went back to work yesterday.

He has my recommendation.

I was banded by Dr H the day after you. :)

Back at work already? Good for you- I'm still just exhausted.

How are your incisions doing? My stitches are itching pretty bad and I can't wait to take them out.

Good to hear you are doing well. I put some anti itch cream with cortizone, and the itching stopped. I'm down 18 lbs and no hunger.

I get hungry here and there, but no way am I going to eat something I'm not supposed to. My best friend had her lap band put in 6 months ago and decided to try a few tiny bites of a tortilla the first week, chewed well and had horrible pain until it passed. That is enough to scare me from trying anything stronger than cream of wheat when I am hungry.

I am down 4 lbs which, considering all the sugary juices I have drinking all day, is surprising.

Last night I finally ventured out of the house and went to the ballet with the family. By the time they had the dance of the sugarplum faries, I was really tired, but I made it through.

Are you going to be going back to Dr H for fills?

Someone is full of it 1800 surgeries haaa hhhaaaaa, everyone needs to realize that a lot of the defense of these shoddy doctors are not even real bandsters. They are shill posters who are actually employed by the so called surgeons they are shilling for and defending. Ok instruments that are supposed to be used 1 time are being used over and over. when you start the erosion process and the band (will) be removed you will pay again to remove it. SO WHERE IS THE SAVINGS. hepatitis is the latest thing people have been exposed too, whats your life worth, you can get banded here in the states for less than 10 thousand look around. at least your band will last the rest of your life and not a year or 2.

hhhaaaa hhhhaaaaa what a laugh,,, where do you get your facts, surely you just grab them from thin air. p.s. hows the weather in Tijuana. since you work for the local (so called) surgeons, many here are aware that you schill post over and over its ,,,OBVIOUS,,,,HULLOOO

johnnyreno---did you have a bad experience with one of these Dr.'s? If so please let us know what and when, it is the best way to spread the word on these boards.

I personally was banded 2 years ago by Dr. Aceves, with no problems at all, I had a great surgical experience, and have had wonderful results with my band. I am able to eat all foods, and am almost to my goal weight. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I am not now, nor have I ever been employed by, nor paid a solitary cent by Dr. Aceves or his staff, or the hospital he operates out of. I reccommend him strictly on the experience I had with him. My Sister In Law and I went to be banded together, and she has taken her 2 DD's...as well as 3 others locally who have been banded by him---which is where I became aware of him. It was not through the boards or a website, or a paid coordinator---it was satisfied word of mouth.

Please let us know your experience.

I do agree, that it is wonderful that now the surgery is available at an affordable cost in the US....I think it is ideal, it was not however available to me when I was banded, or at least I was not aware of it being available at a comparable amount.

Heh... if he has done 1800 bands they sure aren't Inamed or J&J bands. Those companies have not sold him that many bands. And if he is so darn busy placing bands why does he need a day job and then go to his clinic and operate at night?

The above is an interesting thread.

Know what else is interesting? When Dr. Huacuz signed up with OH and paid them for advertising he claimed to be a fellow of the ACS, that takes some serious work to be a fellow.

I called the ACS a few days ago and they have never heard of Huacuz but they were not happy that he was claiming to be a member, let alone a fellow. They made it very clear that he is to remove those initials after his name on OH (F.A.C.S.) immediately and I happened to contact OH at the same time and son of a gun, within a day the FACS was gone from his name.

He's such a liar.

Check it out for yourself, go to Welcome to the American College of Surgeons. See if he is a fellow, he isn't.

Johnny, sweetness, the weather in Tijuana is probably the same as it is here in San Diego. I am gainfully employed on the American side of the border and not by any of the surgeons. Where did I get my numbers? I asked the doctor. It's really easy. This is how I did it. Looked on the website, got the number, dialed, asked the question, got the answer.

I think you might have your emails confused. I just saw this thread a few hours ago and I certainly did not email you about it. Perhaps you received an email notification that someone posted in this thread?? Besides, I was responding to another poster, not you. I too, went to Aceves and am very happy.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
