I haven't read any of the books you have (but I am certainly going to check them out) however, I have read "Weightloss Surgeries for Dummies" (my surgeon co-wrote) and have recommended that to several people. It does discuss all the surgical options available, has great ideas for aftercare and some yummy receipes.

A really good one is "Lapband for Life" by Dr. Ariel Ortiz, M.D. It can be ordered off of Dr. Ortiz's website, Obesitycontrolcenter.com or on Amazon.com. It may also be available on Ebay.:)

I ordered this book from Amazon.com

Read thru it in 15 minutes.... there was nothing new in there that I did not get from this forum.

I could 'make' a better book if I just compiled all the info from the many different websites.

Total waste of money!

My 2 cents!!!

I have been on this journey now for almost a year trying to get my surgery. Along the way, I wanted to really educated myself. Here is a list of the books I've read so far. Many of them have been very useful, some more than others.

  • Doctor's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery: How to Make the Decision that Could Save Your Life - Louis Flangbaum, M.D.

  • Finding My Open Door: My Experience with Gastric Bypass Surgery - Bonnie Freeman, RN, B.S.N.

  • Weight Loss Surgery: Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside You - Barbara Thompson

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
