New.....but Very Impatient!!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum!! I have decided to change my life by starting the lap band journey!!! My idea started when one of my co-workers started losing weight and I asked him what his secret was and he presented me with this procedure. Like all of you, I have struggled for over 10 years to lose this extra weight. I have gone as far as becoming a strict vegetarian and excluding junk food from my diet. I have even acquired my taste to like Tofu! I am currently waiting to attend my first lap band seminar which is Oct. 16th but it seems like eternity. I have become depressed because I have low self-esteem and feel like I will never feel good in my body again. I am hoping to learn a lot from this lap band family and can only hope that I am approved for this operation by my insurance company. I am so ready for this because my life no longer revolves around food, my only issue is the hunger because I feel this does not let me become successful in my weight loss journey!

Thank you very much!!

Good for you. You indicated that you are very impatient. On thing you need for lapband surgery is patience. Unlike some other weight loss surgeries, LB does not happen quickly, and that can certainly mess with your mind and be very frustrating. Alot of us who have had surgery within the last month are not losing right now and in fact we are told not to expect to lose for the first 6 weeks or until we get proper restriction and that could be months.

Lots of willpower, Portion Control and good choices will be needed and the band does not work on its own, it is a tool, you have to do all the hard work.

good luck

Kidlaa,

Patience is all you need. I attended my first seminar in December of 2011. Was banded on October 5, 2012. My situation was out of the norm I'm told but it was very discouraging anyway. Well I'm now banded

I'll admit it. I am an impatient person.... In October 2010 I made my decision to get banded. The Dr told me it would take 2.5 -3 yrs to lose the weight. I wanted to die. But instead I embraced it and took the bull by the horns... I counted every calorie, tracked every morsel I put in my mouth and stuck to the plan like glue. Fast forward 23 mths... I will be at goal in 7 lbs.

You will be too... before you know it. Best of luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
