I was banded yesterday and everything went great with the surgery. However, I suffer from Migraines and told I can't take my medication. I have had a killer Migraine for two days, lots of pain at my incisions and I am Starving! Does it get better? Did I just make a huge mistake?!

I just got banded yesterday and I feel so much better than I did yesterday. Although I was starving yesterday, I couldn't eat anything because of the bloated/gas feeling. GET GAS X. That plus my pain medication (lortab oral solution) got me through yesterday. Today I still have a bloated feeling in the center of my breast/start of stomach but I'm able to get liquids down and keep them down. I am finally half way done with a 14oz Protein Shake, after 6 hours...

Hang in there! Everyone's pain tolerance and recovery time is different and from all the responses I've read, it almost always gets better! Good luck you two!

Hang in there. It does get better. I promise! I'm 8 days post open and last week was awful. But you'll turn a corner soon. Just Hang In There!

Right now I'm laying on the couch because I took my liquid vitamins too fast and I feel like I'm gonna barf! I'm waiting for it to pass so I can go walking.

Ah, those first few weeks are tough ladies! Your body is still attempting to make sense of your new band and adjust accordingly. Keep in mind that you are in a healing stage, where your body is attempting to heal itself inside and out. I would ask my doctor WHY you can't take your medications. Certain medications do not play well with your new band, BUT there are alternatives that could give you quick relief. Find out if the doctor is concerned about the physical size of your medication OR if the issue is the chemical content. Either way, I feel sure they can rectify your medication issues. Hang in there, because it definitely get better very soon!

It is the chemical content that is the problem. They want me to wait a week. I am on liquid loritab, but it just doesn't get rid of the Migraine. I shouldn't complain too much since I do not have any gas pains at all. I think being so hungry is making me feel moody and I really can't get comfortable.

Hang in there! Like Dennis said, it will get better. You did not make a mistake though it may feel like it now. This will pass and your journey will begin.

If the Migraine is too bad, perhaps they can give you a shot to help ease it.

I thought the same thing! I was in so much pain, so sore, I regretted having the surgery I was like what in the hell did I do! Lol but I assure you that it will get better, just try to relax and let your body heal, Protein Shots work the best for me, just shop around and try different ones until you can find some that you can tolerate! Best of luck!

It sure does get better. I had surgery on the 24th and was sick and felt tired. I started to feel better on day 4. Hang in there.

Just some advice.I have frequent chronic Migraines and when I take hydrocodone it triggers migraines.and or makes an already active migraine worse.. If it doesn't get better go to the hospital for a shot of some strong pain medication.. They always give me phentanol or dilaudid..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
