Full Feeling

Recommended Posts

Okay, after reading a few posts I had to ask this on my own. I have not been banded yet, so here goes...

It sounds like that full, pants don't button, have lots of gas, nausea, feel like you are going to blow up is NOT a feeling you should have when eating (properly) with the band.

Someone explained it to me as a feeling like you have to burp, that's when you know you are full or what your NEW full feeling should be?

I know I have to exercise control on my own, but I am hoping that I will also feel my limit sooner if I am following my diet properly.

Any help on the subject would be apreciated =)

You are totally correct!

You reach this point you simply realize you're not at all hungry. Everyone has different "soft stop" feelings, for lack of better term. Some people will get little hiccups, or a sigh, or burp. Still others don't get an actual sign but simply know when they're done. It's very much a learning experience, especially since most of us did our fair share of binge eating before being banded and have relearn to really listen to our bodies.

Sticking to a cup or less of food per meal can really help, too. That's especially true in the beginning when we're learning and still prone to over eat due to old habits.

And btw, you feel that feeling of satisfaction a lot sooner.

Best wishes :)

Missy as always is right on. I don't get a sign, I just get a feeling that if I take another bit I'll be sorry. And yes I've tested this feeling and yes I was sorry.

Missy is right on with it all, sometimes I hiccup, not always and sometimes it's just a feeling of a sort of a sigh or a feeling like I could burp but can't and I know right then I better stop or it will all come back up. Still learning my band tho. A note to you for a book to read if you are wanting to know all about the band, is our own Jean McMillan, The Bandwagon, wonderful read and very informative!!! Very worth the money from her...scroll to the bottom of this page and you can purchase it. I love mine.

Good luck!

I get shoulder pain when I have had enough. After surgery I had the worse pain there and it took forever to go away. Now when eating and I hit my limit I feel that pain. My doc said its a nerve that is affected during the surgery that causes it. Good luck! :)

at around 4 oz and i never go over the 1 cup of food. (and i get signals from the band that its time to stop.....dennis makes fun of me but its baby hiccups. lets me know ok CG, time to stop. so i stop. (even if i want more and am (thinking i am still hungry) i know i have had enough, my band has had enough and i wont starve if i stop eating.

listen to your body, your band and use common sense

I always stop at a cup of food. I have no signs of being full but like carolinagirl said I know that's enough food and it's time to stop.

I'm only a month post op, so I am still learning. Although I don't have 'restriction' yet, I do get the soft reminder (i.e. a hiccup) when it's time to stop. It is almost always when I am about to a cup of food. Seems my stomach shrank anyway during pre op and post op, and although I'm sure I COULD eat more if I tried, that would just be reverting back to old ways and I didn't pay all this money to go backwards.

I focus on two main things every day, getting in my Protein and my liquids/water. I am very careful to stagger my Protein intake pretty evenly between my meals and have yet to be hungry. So far, so good... You can do it! ;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
