Support For Pre Op Quitter

Recommended Posts

Anxious as anything and hoping for a bit of support!!!! Thursday will mark the start of my 2 week Pre op diet, but also my last day as a smoker and coffee drinker! I know most will think I'm crazy, but I've found to be successful I must change by necessity as I cannot rely on my own free will. I have been at this process for a long hard and dedication filled 10 months so I know I'm mentally prepared, but nervous nonetheless!!!!!

I'm serious about keeping yourself busy. I've been going through every closet, drawer and cubby cleaning. You never even notice that you haven't stopped in hours.

Tomorrow weeding, YAY!!! lol

Chewing gum helps me too when I have the urge to chew or snack. Good luck w/ everything. That is a lot of lifestyle changes all wrapped up into one. Also, if you used to drink a fair amount of caffeine you may experience headaches during the "withdrawal" it will subside after 2-3 days.

You CAN do this. We are all proof. If we all had will power of steel we wouldn't need the band. If we can do it, you can too. :)

I cannot rely on my own free will.-----

those are your words. they are incorrect.

you must rely on your free will and change your thinking. its not will power you are after but WANT power. if you want something, do what you have to do in order to make it happen. dont focus on the surgery. go day by day or hour by hour. but as long as you go, you will get there

hang in there and know you are not alone

this forum is a great place to come too for support/understanding

It's an amazing feeling to have such a wonderful support system. I woke up this morning and made the decision to not wait and do it all in one day. Baby steps, but packed up all of the coffee in the house besides Decaf and put it in my car to bring to family next week. I only have 4 K-cups of decaf left which should hopefully land me on Thursday with subsided headaches and ready to tackle another challenge! I have a wonderfully supportive husband who offered to go on the 2 week pre-op diet with me. I am truly blessed to have someone in my life that would be willing to do that for me! As far as the smoking goes...continuing is not an option! I have promised myself, my husband, and my doctors that this will be the last time I allow myself to consciously make a decision that negatively affects my health. I am not going to allow anything to get in the way of my Quest for a healthy lifestyle. Failure is not an option! I know there will be good days and bad days, but I will be armed and ready with the support of LBT to get me through!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
