I Had My Surgery Today And I Feel Blessed Beyond Measure!!!

Recommended Posts

Yes we sound the same! People have lived on far less. And I'm not dropping lbs a day so I think my body knows something is going on. So nice not to be fighting hunger isn't it? To go all day and not think about food constantly. What an unbelievable gift. TOnight I'm having a glass of wine or two. Probably not medically allowed but it's liquid at least :) Oh and I have eaten a bit of food. I know not allowed. I had a 1/4 cup of overcooked noodles that I at one noodle at a time and a few bites of chili. I also had a spoonful of PB and some melt away baby puff type snack. My stomach didn't seem to mind. But I'm trying not to do that too much. My savior has been Frozen Greek Yogurt by healthy choice. Perfect serving size. 5G Protein 100 cals and AMAZING.

I couldn't even think of eating, I would lick a hamburger if it was in front of me, maybe chew it and spit it out. I have to really follow the post op plan, to prove that I can do it and because after my post op, I go home (I am at my mom's) which is 6hrs away from my clinic, and I can't imagine having problems being 6hrs away.

Your body is in starvation mode and is holding onto everything, it is not burning fat right now and I doubt we are losing much. Once we start eating more, better, weight loss will come.

I got banded yesterday and I am in so much pain. I didn't think it was going to be this bad. Hurts to get up and down. I was told to walk but it hasn't really gotten the gas moving and I tried taking the gas x and that also isn't moving it. I need some positive feedback because now I'm feeling like maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

Go look in the mirror and think of yourself at your goal weight. Than should make u feel you made the right choice.

Banded on the 17th only on of my incisions are still really tender. Its more of a sort muscle feeling so I even forget to take pain meds.

The gas hurts worse then the surgery. Today that I chewed gum which some doc have said not to do I've burped and pooted the most. I tried gas x strips and it didn't do anything. I went walking around outside and it did help.

Thank you so much. I'm now on my 5th day post op and feeling better and better thankfully I think just reading some of the things on here are discouraging and were worrying me that something was wrong but I know that my body just went through serious surgery and it needs to heal!

You have to truly listen to your body. Everyone is different. Some on 4 weeks liquids some on 1. I would think it has to do with age and how healthy the body is like if person smoked or drinks kinda determines how fast body bounces back. I went back to work today. Lift 30lb box after 8th day of post op. I was exhausted though from my short work day. So I know I'm not 100%. Hang in there. Flip through a magazine pick out something u want to buy. Don't give up!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
