I had my surgery yesterday and so far so good other than the pain in my back and shoulder and of course my stomach. I feel as though someone punched me really hard in the gut. I have some questions

What did you eat in the few days following surgery was it Soup, broth, Jello, pudding etc.

#2. when did you start to feel better pain more manageable

#3 how much walking should I do? I actually feel better somewhat standing then sitting so I've been walking a fair amount

Any post op advice is welcomed thanks

The first week I did Protein shakes, chicken broth sugar free.popcicles and as much Water as I could! I started walking.the day after surgery twenty to thirty minutes three times a day. The pain went away around ten eleven days post op most pain was the shoulder and back pain exterior the second and third.day post op I felt like I had done a billion sit ups.. Just remember its all about.you're recovery and keep yourself hydrated and follow you're drs post op diet!

I had surgery Monday. I two have found it easier to stand instead of sit in a chair. It took me all day yesterday to get 2 shakes down. I've been having about 6-8 oz of broth. Also taking my gas-x strips every 3-4 hours has helped with gas. I walked for about 20 mins. Do you have any neck pain?

The neck n shoulder pain, for me, was the gas they use during surgery to fill you to make room. Did you have hernia repair too. My dr said most do but since we concentrate on the band we forget. I held a pillow on my tummy, the support helped mu h like when you straighten and upright position does the same....

Don't push yourself too fast, you can easily be too eager.

My Dr had me on Clear Liquids 2-3 days then 'thicker' (shakes, thin puree Soups etc) for 3-4 and then soft, scrambled egg soft, for next 3-5 and slowly up to normal foods. That whole process could take a week to over two depending your tolerance. I was told the slower you go the better for you... the dietitian also said some people race thru it in a few days. I found about 10 days to be good for me. I was advised rushing causes inflammation etc... your body/stomach/muscle/tissues, whatever, need time to adjust to their new life too.

Anyway, that was my experience. Don't rush, be well....

Aww yes the beginning is the worse the pain in the shoulder is gas and no matter what pain medicine you take it won't take away the gas pain. Drink Water lostssss also the gas x every 4 to 6 hrs when you feel relief even if it's ten mins walk that's the only way to get that pain out . Also hot broth even ice packs . the gas travels up I would sleep sitting on the couch to get relieve but hopefully by day 6 to 7 the gas should be gone but it's true walk walk walk it will help a lot I didn't believe it at first but each day and time I walked I felt better and better . I was banded with plication aug 22 and about 10 days after I was back to my 2 mile walk. Best advice I can give is move around .

i was banded on monday and am comforted to hear similar experiences like lack of sleep etc. i also woke with a terrible headache (caffeine withdrawal?) waves of nausea now and then too. im also surprised that i can only take half sips of Fluid at a time. makes it hard to get all the fluids in (may also have caused my headache).

dont mean to sound neurotic about the scale numbers but i just figured since i have had virtually no calories for 3 days i would have dropped some pounds, but i have actually gained 3!! am i alone here?

thanks for reading... good going everyone!

I got my band Monday. Pain is very manageable today. Not much if any gas pain. I also have gained three pounds. I know it is swelling and my body retaining Fluid from the trauma. I KNOW this. Still really makes me aggravated.

I'm able to eat a cup of broth, or Soup or Protein shake at a time without feeling terrible. Maybe I have less swelling. Crazy how different it is for everyone

Kykhinkle I'm glad to hear your feeling better it certainly gives me hope that relief is around the corner. My dr called in norco pill form which is giving me more relief. I only got down 2 oz of my Protein Shake some broth and Water. The gas has been traveling to my neck back and shoulder. I've been using a heating pad that seems to be helping. I haven't weighed myself yet because if I've gained any weight I think I'll start crying. when I went got my pre op testing at the end of august I weighed 240 yesterday I weighed 221 so I've lost 19 lbs so far. I'm very pleased with that considering I have an under active thyroid that slows my weight loss a lot.

I had my surgery on Monday. Is anyone feeling any sort of pinching in their stomach? Just want to know if this is normal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
