Gaining Weight

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery on 8-24 and had to stay on the liquids for another week but as soon as I started eating solids again I have started to gain a little back and I don't get my first fill until 9-20 this is discouraging has it happened to anyone else?

Yes, it's common to gain a small amount of weight when you return to eating solid foods again post op.

Several things to keep in mind...first, don't become obsessed with your scale and weigh yourself every day. It's still a battle I fight with myself...but in the long run the daily weigh in only ends up contributing to unnecessary negative thoughts and feelings of discouragement.

The most important things you can do for yourself at this stage is be certain to comply with your surgeon recommended diet and portion sizes, along with making healthy food choices, and get your exercise in.

Many bandsters mistakenly believe that having a fill will eradicate their hunger...likely that will not happen with a first fill. Instead of relying on the band to provide limits on your eating, now is the time to hone your healthy eating patterns and will power.

For the majority of bandsters it will require several fills before you have adequate restriction...but more important than the restriction are the self imposed limitations on making healthy choices with food and portion sizes.

take it day to day...so far you are doing good modifying your habits you just need to break the scale one ....it will take some time. Try giving yourself small intervals of 2 weeks between weigh ins...then extend it to 3 etc. until you are sitting at month to month.

Ive done so many "no-nos" since being banded I learn day to day even now almost 1 yr later... I dont regret them they are a lesson learned. Dont beat yourself up, there are too many good things to look forward to :)

Truth. I was banded aug 15th ...was great 1st 2 weeks, now I've totally stalled. But I know my limits...I need to up my workouts & lay low on the carbs. Time to shake this booty into shape:))!!!

Good luck!!!

I'm 8 weeks and the same has happened as well. The past 2 weeks I have made bad food choices. I have a appt for a fill tomorrow and have been so tempted to cancel as my dr had given me a 5kg weight loss goal between visits. I didn't want to be a failure. But I'm going and facing my bad choices.

Back on track. In making this journey count.

My doc said, "don't even look for weightloss till you are completely healed. In fact, you might gain." Then after you heal, you will be in bandster hell till you get the right amount of fluids. I got my band in March and am just now, this last month at proper restriction. Be patient, thats what my doc kept telling me, and he was right. It will come. And don't beat yourself up, that just leads to discouragement and we all know what happens when bbw get discouraged. We eat!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
