The only thing I'm missing from my checklist is the psych evaluation & one more support group I'm just so confused right now about doing the Lapband after attending a support group everyone was so negative about it I heard so many stories I was the only one their who was getting the Lapband before I was 110% sure I was getting the Lapband now I'm confused I feel like those other procedures are too much for me & my body won't be able to handle it I'm just wondering if any of you went through this I would love to please get some input & advice

Band bashing is a national sport, I'm surprised it wasn't at the Olympics. I am happy with my band and I know many others who are too. So long as you are well educated and go into the procedure with your eyes open about what the band does and does not do then I see no reason why you shouldn't be successful and happy too.

Yes there can be complications but the same is true with all the WLS. At least with the band most of the side effects are not life threatening.

The best thing you can do is research & educate yourself.

I haven't been banded yet, but yes I expect gas pain. I had a hysterectomy 15yrs ago and I remember walking up & down my driveway at 2am. Everyone will have gas pain but walk ,walk, walking will help.

PS I only had to do it one night

I had some pain but not gas pain and it wasn't anything that the pain meds couldn't take care of.

As for the hysterectomy that was fine until one of the dumb nurses made me take some laxative. The pain from that was so bad I was in agony, pacing up and down the ward with nothing helping - eventually they had to give me a sleeping pill to knock me out.

I had lap band on 8/20/12 and know it was the right choice for me. I had a friend that had it done in 08' and she lost 140 in the first 14 mths. she has kept it off as well. You will have to make alot of choices. But alot are things that should have done years ago. I have no regrets with my band. I am down 22 lbs so far. I was sore the first week. I never needed any pain meds after the first two days. It was sore, but I could live with it. After surgery the more you get up and walk the better. I got up inbetween commercials and walked around my dining room table until my show was back on. Then I started on my treadmill. Slow and when i started to get sore or super tired I got off. Usually about 10 mts to start at. Now I am up to 25 mts and I am walking faster then I started. I am also starting my Water aerobics class a week from tomorrow. I am super excited about it.

I have not know anyone that wished they would not have had the lap band. Good luck to you.

Vicky

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
