Being Stuck Sucks!!

Recommended Posts

Today I'm at a family gathering. On the menu is steak, salad, corn on the cob, potatoes, and bread.

So I know potatoes and bread are out for me. I'm thinkin corn is questionable so none of that either. Steak I should be able to eat if I chew chew chew. Salad is fine for me too. So I'm eating slowly, chewing well and taking long breaks between bites.

It's just not working for me.. I held off until some had started to clear the table To go to the bathroom. It wasn't going down it had to come up.

How embarrassing! I hope to never get stuck in public again!

Yikes!

I haven't been banded yet but I had a corn kernal go down the wrong pipe today and about died from the coughin and choking it caused! My first thought was....is this what being "stuck" will be like?!

Sorry you had to go through that =(

Ugh I havnt really tried corn since being banded, it really doesn't have any nutritional value and I don't think it would go down to well so I steer clear.

Being stuck is a feeling all it's own, I hope you never have to experience it. Seems like I am having an unusually hard time, either that or other bandits don't talk about it as much.

Yeo I will not touch corn. It seems that social gatherings can be sometimes unnerving! Steak is out unless it is tense and marinated or a filet mignon. I tried a salad at wild Buffalo wings yesterday... Not good if yah know what I mean. I had hoped for success. My husband pointed out that I had eaten earlier at a farmers market taste testing...guess I over did it.

Ugh just when I think I'm getting the hang of eating... I'm not!

I've found it's all or nothing for me. Also if I wait too long to eat I will usually get stuck no matter what it is. I'm guessing because I'm so hungry and I just have at it too quickly.

While corn does contain a high percentage of carbs, it also is a great source of Fiber, and not on my "forbidden foods" list that was given to me by my surgeon.

I've had a few bites of corn on the cob twice since being banded, chewed it very well, and had nothing negative happen.

Yes I have for sure noticed that if I wait to long I will have problems! If I feel like I'm getting to hungry I have a snack to avoid that happening.

Really? Good to know. The only vegetables I've tried are ones that can be cooked down to be really soft (other than salads) like green Beans.

Lucky! I love corn! But it is on my Doctors Forbidden list. It's a starch just like potatoes and peas. All the foods I love are bad for me :( I am a huge popcorn freak too. Adjusting to this is going to be hard.

I had corn on the cob last night and I loved it! I am 9 weeks post op and I had my first fill last week. I really expected a change in what I could eat, but its just the same as before. I avoid bread, fried foods, and potatoes because of the nutrition value but otherwise everything is good. I chew very very well, eat slow, and take small bites. I also keep my portions small. I'm dreading the day I won't be able to eat a salad or lightly steamed veggies.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
