Hello All,

So I started my 14 day liquid diet with Chike! Meal Replacement shakes and I had a terrible headache all day leading to this morning, but I feel fine now. My doctor tells me that I can only have the shakes, coffee (black), unsweet tea, crystal light, and broth. His aim is for me to enter into ketosis. But my question is, how long will it take, and how has any one dealt with the consipation that comes with it? I'm taking Metamucil before each of my shakes, but I wonder why wouldn't he just put me on a high Protein, no/low carb, vegetable diet? Any advice or insight will help!

Thank you,

DeShawn Johnson

DeShawn,

I have been experiencing terrible headaches as well. They subsided on Day 2 and now Day 4 I have another one. I am hopeful tomorrow will be much better!

From the other posts I have read regarding Pre-Op Diets - I have learned that there seems to be different diet instruction, depending on the surgeon. Mine instructions are similar to yours however - I am allowed 3 ounces of Protein, unlimited vegetables and 1/2 cup starch for dinner. I also use Metamucil. One things I know that assists with the discomfort of this diet is doubling (or sometimes tripling) my Water intake.....when I do, it is very noticeable.

Hope this may help you - even in some small way. :)

Blessings, Lisa

Every office is different, I start tomorrow with 4 shakes and 1 serving each of fruit and veggies, no broth, sf popsicles, sf Jello as a treat, not daily.

Good luck to you, I think this might be the hardest part.

Just hang in there guys! I seem to remmber that the pre op diet got much better on day five. I also drank 100 oz of Water on my pre op diet.

I think some of the reasons doctors torture us with this crazy pre op diet are...

They take the guess work out of dieting. There is no room for mistakes, if you follow this diet you will be ready for surgery.

The protien shakes are very low fat, important to shrink your liver.

They want to make sure you can stick to it, after surgery you will have to stick to a liquid diet for weeks.

They also want you stomach to be empty in the day of surgery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
