Fill And Yank!

Recommended Posts

I had my second fill on Friday, this time from a new doctor at the practice (I was not expecting that and NOT happy about it).

Anyway, with the first fill (.8ml) i felt nothing when the needle went in or when it came out.

With the second fill (.5ml), i felt the poke (no biggie) then felt a HUGE yank when he pulled the needle out. I could have told you exactly where my port, tube and band ring were at that moment. I felt the entire thing move as he yanked the needle out.

Anyone else have that happen?

That sounds very unusual. I have only had 2 fills and have felt the needle going in both times...but have never ever felt the needle come out. Wonder what he did that was so different???

on my second fill I felt a big yank coming out as well. Never felt it going in either fill.I didn't feel the band move, but definitely the port!

I can see that happening. Tell him next time that he needs to keep some pressure on the port with his other hand so that when he pulls the syringe away, it doesn't stick in the port which pulls the port away from where it's sutured into your muscle fascia.

It's never happened to me but it's understandable how it could happen. Some other patients will probably clue him in and maybe by the time you go next time, he'll have perfected his technique?

I've felt the needle come out as well.. honestly it's a little uncomfortable. I thought it was normal? After a fill I'm usually sore for a couple of days.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
