So good to see nurses on here, I felt like I was alone but not anymore!!!! I am the manager of surgery, I had surgery on a Tuesday in June this year, I went back to work that Friday!! I was slow moving. I didn't have a choice , I chose not to tell anyone at work due to unwanted opinions or talk. I am also a Pre-op and PACU nurse. So remembering not to overdo it is tough when your feeling good. I would love to have had at least through the weekend to rest, but couldn't. Still only 4 people know about my band. My husband, my boys and best friend and that is It!!! I definitely don't regret any of it. My advise, if you have the time, take it. Good luck to all of you!

Well, the book I was reading from my coordinator suggests 4 weeks with no heavy lifting or straining....hmmm, that may be a challenge. I'm going to ask my surgeon next week and see what he thinks. He works in the same OR as me so he will have a good understanding of my responsibilities. I'm not real particular about telling people...it doesn't bother me near as much as being fat. I look forward to the support I have gained so far from my co-workers and friends.

I am a CNA still in school working towards my RN and I am glad to see so many others in a similar line of work. I am currently in the beginning of the process and am meeting with the surgeon on sept 18th. I would love to join the nurse forum but couldn't find it. Good luck to all of you who are getting ready to be banded.

Good luck to you Kristinsmommy-- I wish you the best of luck.

This is my first post really since banding on the 27th. I have learned a few things- the gas pains are wicked but walking is the key. Also a heating pad. Next I think an abdominal binder will help as the port site is the only incision that still hurts.

The positive- I am down at least 10 lb....but the miracle for me is the "lack of hunger". The full liquid diet is kinda boring. But I AM glad to have broken a continuous hunger cycle.

Good luck to you all waiting to be banded. BTW on or about the 3 rd day the bowels waken up-be prepared. several people had to make mad dashes. But you do feel better after.

Talk again soon- karen

Hello nurses...

I am also an RN working in LTC in Canada. I am glad I came across this forum and very nice to meet you ladies, because I too was wondering how long I should take off from work. by your comments, I guess I will ask for 2wks when I get a surgery date.

And we should keep this nurse group going; it's great, we do rock and should rock together lol...silly joke...

Fellow nurses.....I am looking for some scrubs in my size and having a hard time finding things that feel comfortable to me. The cute stylish scrubs are typically fit for "junior" plus sizes which are big, yes, but don't do as much to accommodate my baby-bithin' hips ;)

What I have now are draw string with side pockets (not the unisex kind) which are nice because you can loosen or tighten the string....but find that that ride high in the front and low in the back...esp when I am sitting. I am in a 2x and to get into something more comfortable in that particular style I am having to go up a size, and even then it's not great!

Do you have specific brands that you feel fit plus size well? Where do you buy them?

In california I go to smartscrubs. They have the coolest designs. Most tops and bottoms go from xxs to xxxl. They are mostly online and catalog. See the web site and order a caalog. Plus, they are made to really wear a long time. Hundreds of patterns , especially for the holidays. I love them.

I'm a nurse in the NICU. My babies may not weigh a pound but their transporters and beds weigh a ton. Anyway, take as much time off as you can. I did to much to soon and ended up having a couple if claws that attach my port to my muscle come off and start shredding the muscle. Not pleasant. At. All.

Nurses are the worst patients. Let your body heal. Enjoy yourself, learn to live with the band :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
