Bcbs Of Al Being Lazy!

Recommended Posts

Thats awesome! I am already 4 months into this and i dont even have a surgery date. I guess the insurance company would rather pay for all my meds and all the things that will go wrong later because of my weight instead of paying for one surgery. I feel so defeated.

Yeah, that's one thing I have a hard time understanding. So many companies EXCLUDE weight loss surgery. WHY!? Weight related health issues surely cost more in the long run than the surgery.

dont give up !!! I have BCBS too, and last fall they approved me in 3 weeks ! I had a letter from my dr stating that she felt i was a good candidate based on my family history , (short women with weight probs), and i had tried 1 yr of weight watchers w/o success, plus i had high BP and sleep apnea. my bcbs paid 100% (bless them), i was banded last December, ive lost 50 lbs and im very grateful to them for paying for the band. I was told to just jump through their hoops and get all the proof, letters of recommendation, and documents signed that i could. i did everything , had the paperwork sent in a nd got approved quickly. So hang in there and keep trying !! Dont give up !!

I agree with the don't give up aspect. It was 8 months for me from start to surgery and my insurance put me through every hoop possible.

I stayed focused and provided them with everything they asked. I am now one month post op and so glad I kept fighting for this.... I am very happy with my decision.

Best of luck to you and....yes you can...be strong.....don't give up.... you are worth the fight!

Thanks everyone. I just hope i can stick it out at my job long enough to get approved! Ugh! I just dont know how to get the documentation they want. Ive never really seen a MD type doctor on a regular basis and apparently the one i did see didnt make notes of my weight loss attempts. Thanks a lot! So im at a loss. Just waiting to hear what my case manager wants me to do. Trying to stay strong but its hard! :/

Are you being asked to perform the 6 month weight loss program?

If so, call or go on line to your insurance company and obtain their preference for this process. Know all the details then tackle them one at a time.

My surgery center assisted with the 6 month weigh in's, suggesting a NUT ...make the psychological evaluation quick those can take some time. Good luck and don't give up!

Starting Over - I did 8 months of Weight Watchers but the problem is the doctor I was seeing at that time made no notes of it. I was seeing him every 3 months for 2 years. (over a year before i got pregnant and during the pregnancy) And he never made any notes about my weight loss attempts. There is no documentation from an MD that says i was on a weight loss program. My midwife and naturopathic doctor have all kinds of notes in their paper work but BCBS doesn't accept these because they are not from a Medical Doctor with some fancy degree!! it is so frustrating that the information is right there for them to see but because it isn't the way they want it I am denied! SO FRUSTRATED!! wish i knew a doctor that could make some notes on some paperwork for me! hahahaha! oh well

Insurance will not take weight watchers notes or payment receipts?

It seems like if you have the documentation you should be able to

challenge the insurance decision. Best of luck to you...keep looking to

find a way if this is your decision! Don't give up!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
