Pre-Op And I Am A Hungry, Hungry Hippo!

Recommended Posts

Wah!

I've been following my surgeon's suggested pre-op diet (2 Protein shakes and a Lean Cuisine a day) and I am hungry!

They also suggest taking a Metamucil capsule twice a day to stave off hunger pangs -- anyone done this? Doesn't it make you -- well -- poop a lot?

Just wanted to whine for a minute. I'm done now. :P

I'm on my third day pre-op, and I was told I can only drink the Meal Replacements 3 times a day and Water. Is everyone's pre-op different because I see people posting they are allowed more. Nonetheless the shakes have been filling me up as long as I drink a lot of water throughout the day. Does anyone else get the gurgles in their tummy?

I was on the liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery. It was not easy as during that time my mother-in-law, who lived with us, died. I had to travel to upstate NY for the funeral and reception. food, Food, Food everywhere. We went to restaurants at least 6 times. I was alright with it because I planned ahead. Of Course couldnt bring my Optifast on the plane but I bought a diet juice and drank that. My saving grace was beef bouillon. I got the little cubes and carried them in my purse. I would order hot Water and sit and drink my bouillon while everyone pigged out. It really was not as hard as I thought, but I was determined. Also, the beef bouillon was more satisfying. It is not easy but keep thinking end results. Good luck

my preop diet seems like a walk in the park compared to the 2 week liquid diets everyone talks about

My doc just said i should be on Atkins for 2 weeks before surgery, does that make sense? (is it possible he made a mistake? or that i misunderstood his orders?!)

I think the different pre-op diet choices are based on starting weight and how long ahead of time you have booked the surgery. My doctor offers the 3 shakes a day, the 2 shakes and one Lean Cuisine (which I am on), and Atkins for his patients.

Stay hungry, my friends! ;)

My surgery is 8/27. I was planning the 2 week preop to start on Monday the 13th. My surgeon called today and said I have to start tomorrow!!! I got a 12 hour warning. I need to lose 15 lbs and because I lose slowly they are worried an want me to start right away!!!! Guess its better that I have no time to dread it but I'm scared about temptation. How has everyone else been doing? Any tips ?

I'm also 8/27! My Dr. only has one pre-op option - 2 shakes and a Soup (any kind). At the support group last night, it was mentioned that those of us in preop could add fruit and such to our shakes as long as we mixed it up smoothy-like. I am going to email the nutritionist tomorrow and verify before I do it, but I can see how adding a banana or something might be a bit more filling and add some flavor.

Me 2:) I feel like I'm doing something wrong. But I have full confidence in my surgeon, staff & hospital. I'm doing Protein drinks w-Water, and bars this week though just to prepare. Good luck!! 6 more days for me!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
