Can't Get Around My Dog Until Incisions Heal???

Recommended Posts

When I saw my weight loss center nurse today she said that I should not let my dog get around me until my incisions heal. And definitely not to let him sleep in our bed. Has anyone else been told this? My dog has major anxiety issues and will only sleep curled up next to me. My poor baby!

I'm guessing he's worried that your dog could be a jumper. If he's not I wouldn't worry about it. If you're a pet lover, you'll probably rest better knowing that your animal is happy. I wouldn't let him sleep next to you for a while though, he might accidentally hurt your incisions and you don't want to take that chance. Maybe he would be okay at the foot of the bed for a while?

I had my dog stay with a friend 1 night cause I was worried he would jump on me. Dr never said anything about not being around dogs. When my dog came home he could tell something was wrong and just laid next to me.

There is also the risk of infection to consider

Also, unless you are in the buff around your dog, and no bandages over the incisions I don't see where they would bother it (other than potentially jumping on you). I have 2 dogs that were my couch companions for the week I was home and recovering. For the first week I had a clear (fully sealed) bandage around each incision and under that guaze and steristrips covering them, plus my clothes. They are all healing nicely. My dogs both were sniffing my shirt though as they knew something was amiss.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
