How much do you avoid caffeine? I really like diet snapple but I know it has caffeine. They say caffeine can lead to band erosion.

I was never told to avoid caffeine. Honestly, I don't even give it a second though, if I want something with caffeine in it, I drink it. (as long as it's not carbonated and is zero calorie)

I drank caffeinated soda like it was going out of style before I got the band, it never caused an ulcer or anything else with my stomach, so I'm not worried about caffeine now. I figure if 6 Cokes a day didn't wear a hole in my stomach nothing will. LOL

It was strongly discouraged that I quit coffee, just because it can dehydrate you, but wasn't really ever advised about caffiene itself. The nutritionist was fine with unsweetened tea.

I've unfortuantely started drinking coffee again, about two weeks ago, but just one cup a day. I was drinking a whole pot of coffee daily before I started my WLS journey.

I was told to avoid caffiene for 2 weeks. Carbonation is the really iffy one (my team did not say no carbonation, but some are adament about avoiding it).

I was only told to avoid caffeine because it boosts your appetite. If it doesn't have that effect on you, I wouldn't worry about it.

coffee actually supresses my appetite! I find that having my daily cup between Breakfast and lunch really helps me avoid snacking. I did okay for the few months I quit coffee, but man, life is SO much nicer with it :) I didn't want to deprive myself of everything good!!

Agree! As long as I keep it under control and I'm still losing and not having any issues medically, my doctor is good with it.

Thanks all. I guess an occasional caffeine drink will not kill me. I was also told to avoid carbonation.

Band erosion? Really? Wow...I just went thru the caffeine withdrawl headache last week...was awful! I have been doing fine now without caffeine but wondered why we couldn't have it.

I've never heard caffeine causes erosion- its the carbonation. My dr has no problem with coffee.< /p>

My weight loss center says no caffeine and no carbonated beverages FOR LIFE!! I gave both up in May. So far so good!

My dietician said it can cause dehydration and increased appetite; however, isn't caffeine in most diet pills? Just sayin.... I think small doses here and there are harmless. Also, tea typically has much less caffeine than coffee and even Decaf coffee has caffeine.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
