Starting To Get Freaked Out:(

Recommended Posts

I had the same thought when I was on the pre-surgery diet - I can do this on my own! Oh, wait... no, if I didn't have pending surgery I would not be on a liquid diet, and therefore I cannot do this myself. I look forward to a new me and a shopping spree too!

Congratulations on your upcoming banding!

I had my surgery on July 30th. I was very scared after getting my surgery date that I almost hoped the insurance would take back the approval. I kept thinking am I crazy what would my husband and 3 & 5 year old do if something happens to me. I had one final meeting with the surgeon where he reassured me he has never lost a banded patient, after that I was good. Something about that final meeting put me at ease. The day of the surgery I was fine, I thought I would need the anti-anxiety meds but I didn't, I just sat in the pre-op area watching the news laughing with my husband. The surgeon came in to say hi, then the anestesialogist came in and gave me a shot in the iv my husband gave me a kiss, I watched him walk out to the waiting room as the wheeled me out to the or and that was it. I woke up in recovery. I know it was a good decision to have the band. I couldnt do this without it, knowing the band is there is what keeps me from raiding the fridge. Good luck to you and speedy recovery.

It was so strange, my doctors office called and said they had gotten word from the insurance that I would have to do three more months of dr supervised wl, then 30 minutes later they called back and said I had been approved. They gave me a date 3 weeks out and I had a moment or two of panic, but calmed down. Then they called and said they had an opening a week earlier. I had one afternoons notice to start my prep diet. That was good because I had less time to worry.

I am 5 days post op and feeling really good. Can do just about anything except bend at the waist. I am very happy I did it. It is easy to say don't worry, but hard to do. Just focus on want you want your life to be when you lose the weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
