Itching post op, and it isn't my incisions.

I had the same thing - like others suggested try benedryl, but also try the benedryl topical cream to help relieve the sites.

Ok, talked to PCP today, she said I didn't need to come in but we talked for a while on the phone. It's basically "allergic contact dermatitis" -- what I thought, only in more words. :) What we can't figure out is why, after the plastic stuff has been off for over a week and all steristrips off for at least 3 or 4 days, I'm just now having this "delayed" reaction. She thinks maybe something (waistband, etc.) irritated it just enough to be a catalyst.

She phoned me in a prescription for ablahblah blahpoopblahblah... seriously can't remember the name, I'll have to look at it when I pick it up. Some type of topical antihistamine that's supposed to be pretty strong. Everything has already started going down, itching is less, and I'm getting a "scaley" skin on top, which she says is another indication it's just an allergic reaction.

I didn't think it was an infection. Damn ask-a-nurses... :)

I had a reaction like this (less severe) on my entire abdomen. Wheetsin, you're a redhead, right? Do you have the skin? The pale, delicate skin of our clan?

I think my reaction was the iodine wash they used. I lost a thin layer of skin that flaked off when I scratched like it had been chapped. I had a few hives too, but none of the cut-like openings (cringe). I have the adhesives problem too, I had to quit smoking the old-fashioned way 'cause I was allergic to the Patches. Take care.

Much luck and rapid healing! Brenda

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
