I was on clear liquids for a week, then full liquids, then mushies, and then real food. Each took a week. When I went on full liquids I was allowed to have very runny grits. One time I didn't have them runny enough and got very nauseous and vomited. I think if we

Do too much too soon we have these problems. It can hurt your pouch so be careful!

Is it normal to still have nausea five days after surgery? Should I go back on clear liquids?

not sure if you are on (liquids as i think you most likely should be). the only time i felt that way is if i was not drinking enough or getting enough Fluid intake. i think you should drink more (popsicles etc). i think that would help. but call your dr if that makes you more comfortable. you do not want to be vomiting so early after surgery. you are healing. (ask them for some anti nauseau meds, that will help).

Thanks! My dr actually only required clear liquids for 48 hours then I could do other liquids. I haven't been eating much (or drinking) much so maybe that is it. I had some hot apple cider after this post, slept a little more, and now I am drinking a protien shake and I feel ok. I have my follow-up appt. Thursday, I also have the magic nausea cream.

Thanks again.

well, since you are sorta (eating) too much at one time. (small sips, small drinks, small small small). keep up with the Protein. that will keep you full and will need to be your BFF. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
