Is This The Right Dress For Me ?

Recommended Posts

Ok girls I desperatly need your help. Im going to my brothers wedding in Aug 4 (abou 2 weeks away)

I need to know if this is the right dress for me ?

I have never wore a dress in my life so I dont really know what looks good on me.

Its going to be a small wedding. Park setting, and a small reception (during the day)

Can you please give me some advise......

Ps: I have a really tight budget. Since the wedding is 4 hrs from where I live and I have to pay

for lodging, gas, etc.

Thanks , kathy

I like the dress, I think it looks good on you. One thing that I always do myself if wear good "foundations". I love my spanx...

I use this under fitted dresses... http://spanx.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10918465&cp=2992553.11308615&parentPage=family

You're gonna rock it!

I think the dress is too tight. The shiny fabric is going to reflect the light & make you look heavier in photos, too. I'd look for something in one size up. Lace, chiffon, crepe fabrics will flow over your curves.

Also, with your complexion I'd go with a color (hot pink and turquoise would make you look absolutely radiant) rather than silver/grey or black.

I don't know where you live but have you ever looked at Goodwill? I live in the suburbs of Miami and our Goodwills around here have incredible stuff. I got my band 2 years ago and have gone from a size 20 to a size 6 and Goodwill has been my savior because I could find nice clothing (banana Republic, Ann Taylor, etc) in very good condition (sometimes still has the tags on it) for $5 or less a piece. Who wants to spend a bunch of money when you're only going to wear the item for a couple months, right?

They usually have a great selection of formal and semi-formal gowns and dresses as most people ony wear these items once or twice.

I think it is very pretty, how proud of yourself you must be!!!! Try one of those one piece girdle things and see if you like that.

I have the same exact one (not wearing it on the pic because I was just trying out dress)

So I think with the spandex on I would look even better.

Thanks for your comment ;)

I know what you are saying about the color. My husband did not like the color either. The color of the wedding is turquoise so I was looking for something neutral to blend in. The dress was very inexpensive $20 @ Burlington. (But I still need shoes) :(

I can never find good looking and comfortable shoes. I love to wear high heels but I dont know how to walk with them. Does anyone recommend Dr. Scholls products???

The dress is actually a size 16 and is not tight at all. It might look tight because im not wearing the proper undergarments at the time the pic was taken.

Thank you so much for your feedback....I really appreciate it!!!!

Thats the way the dress is made. Bunches up on the sides. I thought that detail might take focus away from my lower abdomen. Am I wrong?

But you are right I HAVE to wear my spandex!!!

Thank you so much for the feedback ..... :D

Oh..... ya, I see that now.

No, you are right. All the "shows" say that hides or takes away from flaws. Ruching???? I think it is called.

You only paid 20.00? Wow, looks way more expensive.

Yup... I'd wear it!

I love it! I would also say if you are not used to wearing heels, just buy a pair of dressy flats or the 1" or less heels. I wouldn't want to test high heels on such a big day :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
