i'm here too. and, like willowba, my b'day falls in the middle of the liquid diet. i think that is making me feel more deprived than i normally would. i've done liquid diets in the past, but none has been as hard as this.

keeping my eye on the prize - this temporary deprivation will be worth it in the end.

I was thrilled when my doc said I could have birthday dinner! I have to admit, I'm not doing too hot on this diet. I'm eating some Protein and green veggies once a day. I'm in awe of those who can do this!

Ugg....Day 2. This is horrrrrible. I'm supposed to be able to have a 'plate of specific steamed veggies" once a day, along with my 3 Optifasts a day... but I just don't feel like steaming veggies. I don't wanna eat plain hot veggies! I want butter or cheese on 'em! Last night I cooked a whole bunch of sliced mushrooms in a spritz of mushrooms and added a sprinkle of butterflavoured powder. Tonight.... a container of baby tomatoes. I do have a cucumber I might gnaw on later. How groooooss. What else can I possibly eat!? I don't want a salad, cause I can't have salad dressing...

I don't ever want to be hungry again! *shakes fist* lol

Sorry, I'm just frustrated, reading about crab legs and pecan-crusted grouper - I don't even know what that last thing is, but i wannnnt it!

p.s. I'm in Canada! and I just quit smoking, and I've got my period, so everything's sooo much worse!

Oh Miss Scarlett...you are in a BAAAAAAAAAD way! LOL...well, grouper is a very light fish...not fishy or heavy at all. I'd better start my period before PV! Otherwise, I'll be POed! :angry

Hi, I was just wondering if you could tell me what pre-op diet you are on? I would appreciate it very much. Thank You!!

Gladly...I'm on three soy shakes a day with sf Jello, broth, Crystal Lite, etc. between. I'd say this is hell on earth...but I'm not positive. If not, it's a close :hat:

your liver holds about 4lbs of glycogen this is the "spender" of energy and its saved for the likes of marathon runners for when they hit that wall, out comes your glycogen and gives you a second wind.

so the first thing you lose when you starve and need a lot more energy than your taking in is your glycogen deposit, as soon as you eat carbs again it comes back though

natrurally if you lose the 4lbs of glycogen your liver gets a lot smaller and its easier for the surgeon to work in there.

I KNEW IT! I JUST KNEW IT! I'm starving to death! Grrr...:faint:

Ohhhh!

I'm here giggling over your plight, but I am right behind you! I have banding on April 5. Even though I will only have a week of low carb, no fat, Protein shakes, etc, I know I will be the biggest :sick :baby: of all!!!

It's not my birthday for a few months and I came home so exhausted after teaching all day and had a piece of :hat:, thinking I had earned it.

Hey, DON'T MISS IT TOO MUCH, it's not that great and now I feel awful!! :cry :)

So please. enjoy your birthdays in a positive way. "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels."

(And my husband asks, "Can't you just eat less to lose the weight?"........

Duh.)

Heck! If it were that easy, we wouldn't be doing this, buster! LOL...my family is saying the same thing. It's like...hello? Where have you been the last 30 years that I've been struggling with my weight? Now, I must say my dh said to my son (who was giving me hell), "I've watched your mother struggle with her weight for 30 years. She has a right to be healthy and happy. Leave her alone." Yay!

I am so in the same boat as everybody else right now. I have my first pre-op appointment on Friday and my letter states that I need to start following a high Protein, low carb diet today (the letter came on Tues.) This includes meat, chicken, fish, cheese, and veggies only. NO FRIED FOODS, fruits, or starches (bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, alcoholic beverages, etc.)

Of course I had just ordered a pizza before I checked the mail since I'm in the middle of spring break. So I'm starting this evening or at least trying to. Boy, won't I be a fun teacher when school starts back on Monday!

my pre-op is 5 Protein shakes a day and light steamed or raw veggies if i need them - for 2 weeks.

Woo! At least you're close to my diet! 5 shakes a day! I wish. No, actually I don't wish... I want meat !

Skippy, it depends on your surgeon... some don't require any pre-op diet at all.

I am not banded yet. but I will have to go through the same thing. I was wondering if you can eat lemon? Because Tomato and cucumbers with fresh lemon juice and a little dash of salt and pepper is a good snack. I don't like tomatoes but I love cucumbers. just an idea.

I just bought my supply of Protein Shakes last night. It's a spercial pre-surgery variety that is supposed to be an immune system booster as well as liver reducer. I get 3 per day for 7 days plus Water, sf Jello, clear broth, Crystal Light, Decaf coffe or tea (sf of course). I'm scheduled for 3/28 and can't wait. If it all works out, I'll be recovered enough when the weather gets warmer so I can paddle my kayak. I need the break from the office. Great support on this board. Thanks!

it you guys think this diet is hard, which it is, just wait until you get banded. My doctor have us on 2 weeks of clear liquards before we move onto full liquards for 2 weeks. Right now I'm living on sf Jello, broth, Water, and crystal lites. It is very tuff, especially after the first week. I can't wait until 3-22 when I can go on full liquards which is sf pudding, creamed Soups, I'm counting down the days.:hungry:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
