Can You Get Stuck Before Your First Fill?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 3 weeks post op and my doc doesn't do a first fill until 2 months so I don't have anything in my band yet. However, today I was eating some lunch meat and not paying attention and I ate it quickly. Next thing I know I have this horrible pain in my chest and the urge to cough over the trashcan. After a few times a spitting out gunk I felt better but now I am wondering if that is what stuck feels like.

That would be a stuck. I am 7 months out from surgery and have not had a fill yet. I get stuck if I don't pay attention so it can happen at any point. Just watch how fast you chew and how big a piece you take. Another tip try and really pay attention when out to eat with friends or co-workers you get to talking and you tend to not watch how fast you are eating. This is where I get into trouble. You will learn what does and doesn't work hang in there it is just a learning curve

I am a month out. I get my fill next week. I have been stuck a few times if I take too big of a bite or eat too fast. Slow down and chew!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
