Shoulder Pain

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post-op. Everything has been going well until today. Progressively my abdominal pain has been decreasing. Now today I start with really bad left shoulder pain and pain under left rib cage. I was wondering if I could hear others experiences that may have been similar and possibly hear some positive stories that it goes away soon?

It hurts : ( And the pain meds do not seem to touch it.

Me too!! I had my surgery on Thursday the 5th. Flew home on Friday. Rested the weekend and went to work on Monday (desk job). Have felt sore but ok.... But today lots of shoulder pain and my stomach feel like I did a bunch of sit ups. Crazy! Tonight I am resting!!

Mine was also the 5th. Props to you for going back to work. Man I don't know if I could have today, desk job or not. The abdominal pain I could handle, but this shoulder pain I can't. I don't want to do anything, yet sitting still doesn't help either, all I do is sit and think about it! I rotate my shoulders, get up and walk, take gas-x, nothing helps. I am going to go get a warm pack. I really hope this is better tomorrow.

It's because of the gas they pump in during surgery. It sucks' date=' I remember it well.

I found a heating pad helped, otherwise the best thing you can do is walk as much as you can to help your body reabsorb it faster.[/quote']

Totally agree. Heating pad and walking is the best cure. The shoulder pain was the worst part of the surgery for me. My surgeon warned me about it,said most patients complain about this more than the abdomen pain.

I used the heating pad, gas-x, and walked as well. Seemed to have been gone by the 8th day for me. Hope yours ends sooner! It will get better! :)

Omg it hurts so bad and I'm 14 months post op!! Dr said the esophagus is irritated from too much substance or eating to fast.. And it bothers the nerve.. That pain comes I stop eating and take another bite until the next day!! Hope this helps

Yes it does. That is why i love these boards. you can speak to people who have "been there done that". Cause as your going through it, hearing that it should get better soon makes i a little easier to handle.

My shoulder pain is gone today. Thank god.

I had my band done on July 3rd and its been a really tough recovery. I have gas pain in the same exact spots- shoulder and rib cage. Does gas-x really work??

My surgeon said the shoulder pain was referred pain from moving the diaphragm during surgery. Either way, I remember it hurting like heck and was so pleased when it finally passed. That is the good news - it does pass.

thank you all for this post, my surgery was the 5th too and I'm in agony with this shoulder. I've been walking, been chugging the Water, sprayed it with bio-freeze and now I think I'm going to dip into the pain meds.

I told my husband that I regretted having the surgery today because of this shoulder pain

and the "reverse burps" when I drink which aggravate the shoulder

Reverse burps are a bubble going down instead of up but I have like a hiccup at the same time-yowza.

I know I truly don't regret it but ^%$@@$&()_^*#@ it hurts!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
