Hang in there. It does get better!

After I had my surgery, I wondered if I made the wrong decision, but now I'm very happy with my results.

I honestly never felt the urge to cry. Maybe because I paid 10,000 dollars out of my own pocket, or because I have a very supportive husband and mother, but ive always been grateful for the fact I was able to have the surgery and haven't regreted it once.

hang in there i felt the same way and even started getting emotional during pre opt...... in fact i posted this on Jan 1 ............ "i have been on the pre opt diet for almost 2 weeks and getting close to my surgery date (JAN 4th) and this liquid diet has made me realize how much food is a part of my life and how much of an emotional eater i have been. i have literally broken down into tears a few times because of the emotional impact of this diet. it may have a lot to due with the fact that my liquid diet started dec 22 so it has gone on through the holidays and seeing everyone eat together and seeing all the joy that it brings to them made me a bit nostalgic. its been tough but also an eye opener to realize that i am so attached to food and to realize all the feelings that it can bring about. i didn't realize how emotional this journey was going to be. and i guess in any other emotional situation i would recruit to food but this time i can't and i think that is why i had a few break downs, because i can no longer find comfort and consolation in food and that brings me a since of loneliness ( as pathetic as that might sound) but i guess now is when i start the journey of realizing that food wasnt or shouldnt be the solution to an emotional situation but the problem. so its time to end this bad relationship and break up with food. "

its completely normal to feel emotional during this journey as someone mentioned before its normal to morn the life we left behind the only life we have ever known

Your post reminds me of my own pre op diet. I remember going to the mall on day 4 of liquids. I became so overcome with emotion I had to run out to my car. I just kept sobbing and repeating "I'm so hungry". LOL. Now I am 2 months post op and I see how much power food had/has over me. Every day it gets a little easier.

I really like the unjury brand Protein powder. The vanilla - I use 1 scoop powder, 1 c trop 50 orange juice and some strawberries and crushed ice and mix with my immersion blender, or 1 scoop vanilla, 1 Tbsp dry sugar free pistachio pudding mix and 1 c skim milk and some crushed ice, super yummy, or I do 1 scoop chocolate splendor, 1 c skim milk and a couple ice cubes. Super cold chocolate milk!

Hope you find something you like, Protein is very important. what about canned chicken or tuna? Or eggs, they're a good source. I do hardboiled eggs, or take 1 morningstar farms sausage patty and heat it up in a skillet and then crumble it, then scramble 2-3 eggs into it. Yummy!

This sounds crazy, but anesthesia makes me sad! I've had quite a few surgeries, and seem to go through a little bout of depression for about 3-4 days after. I had been working with a fertility specialist and had gone through 3 surgeries with him, and told him that I feel weepy aftewards, and he said that was completely normal and that there are a lot of reasons for it - not only can the anesthesia have that affect on you, but also "coming down" from the stress and anxiety that surgery causes. Even though I didn't necessarily feel stressed, I knew emotions were running high before surgery and when it was all over, the relief can make you touchy.

Slightly off topic but this thread reminded me of a story my mom loves to tell. For some people the anastetic has the effect of making people emotional right after they wake up. My uncle David had his wisdome teeth out and on the drive back from the hospital he had two big cotton balls in his cheeks and he was sobbing like a big baby. He sucked one of the cotton balls into his throat and started choking. My grandma, who was driving, didn't know what to do so she reached back and punched him in the chest really hard. He spit out the cotton ball and was kinda shocked for a second then started crying even harder. I always loved that story. :)

OMG Im so glad I found this site. I was banded on 6/27 and have had many emotional ups and downs and still continue to do so. I have had moments where I just cry. The 4th of July holiday was the worst...everyone eating and there I was with a shake and watching everyone else....to boot...I had to cook some of the food....I thought I was going to go off the deep end...still do at times. From what I have read here....it does take time to adjust and I will make it through...just doesnt feel that way right now. Guess we can all be here for each other :)

I didn't cry at all after surgery, the pain was bearable as long as I stayed on my pain medication every 4-6 hours. Once, I was going outside the day after my surgery and I could only make it out to the porch and I got winded and had to sit back down. That was frustrating, but realistic. Good luck to you, it will get, better and you will get stronger!

Well I was banded on may 18 n it was an emotional time but I didn't cry just second guess my decision. I don't regret it at all but I have noticed they I am very or irritable at times. When I catch myself doing this I try to step back cause my 3 kids n wanderful husband don't deserve that. I have a great support system n rely on my faith a lot. Could not have done this without strength from God. When I feel blue I talk to my husband n pray for giudance, it really helps me. Good luck to all!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
