Appendectomy Similarities

Recommended Posts

Had my appendix removed this time last year by key hole surgery. I had 3 incisions, one of which was in my navel. The surgeon said he can use the same one in my navel but will see how much scar tissue is around the others. This is not a big issue for my though. I was wondering if anybody had recently had a key hole appendix removal and a lap band and can tell me if the pain and recovery time was similar. Had a tiny amount of shoulder pain, but nothing more than discomfort. If I know that they are similar, I have something to compare it to. Hopefully this will help me mentally prepare for those first few days.

There is probably more discomfort because of the band being around your stomach but pain i would definitely put on a par with other keyhole surgery, i likened mine to have a wisdom tooth out.. the gas be painful for some people and some dont recover well from surgery, some of it will be up to you as to how u recover .. i am sure u will be fine tho :)

I have had 2 c-sections and a gall bladder removal. The gall bladder removal was 3 holes and 30 minute proceedure. I thought the lap band would be similair. However, I felt it was harder than all three but only for 2 - 3 days. I was super suprised when I woke from recovery and had to walk for an ex-ray. I felt horrible. However, it was out patient so it was rushed to get me out. Maybe if I could have stayed a few hours I would have felt better. But after the first day, I noticed huge improvement each day.

I have read that others had a really easy time. So it may not be like my experience. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
