What Kind Of Pre-Op Testing?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, so I am concidering lapband and I am super excited!!! I just am curious on what kind of pre-op testing is done and how long is the process of pre-op testing process before you can get the procedure done? I am completly new to this and the more info I get the better!!! Does anyone think that I would be able to get the labband by mid August, or is that too soon? Thanks :)

Anali welcome! I am fairly new here too, but have been reading everthing I could get my hands on, and making calls like crazy! If you are self pay, I bet you could get it done by august. If you are using insurance, it depends on your plan. Some insurances have a 6 month diet you have to do before the surgery, some don't. If they do ( like mine, and I am just starting!) Then obviously it will be after that. Boo! However I've seen some self pays get it done very quickly!

I had my inital consulatation on the 6th of June. That day I had my breath test (can't remember the name) and EKG done. I also had my blood taken. I had one more appoitment on the 12th with my Doc and I am having my surgery in the MORNING!!

I am self pay and and it has all happened very quick.

It just depends on your insurance company, It can be anywhere from 3-5 months.

Trisket, you are lucky to be able to get it done so soon! The only real time that I would be able to have the procedure done is in August because of work and school schedule; hopefully all goes well with insurance!!

I had my appointment at the end of May and had a pulmonary function test, EKG, and blood work done. A psych eval and a few weeks later an EGD. My surgery is tomorrow so it took about a month for everything including insurance approval.

What time do you have surgery tomorrow?

Call your insurance company up and ask if they cover lapband and what the requirements are. They will be able to tell you if you have to do a supervised diet or not.

So I went to the seminar mid January first appoit was feb last may and it only took 6 hrs for the insurance to approved after it was submitted! I had to go to the nutritionist and psychological evaluation as well! My surgeon have all does in his practice! Now I have a friend who has *** Aetna and she needs a referral from her primary doctor after that the process is the same has to do the 3 month thingy! Oh had my surgery June 20!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
