One Day I Can Eat..the Next I Cant

Recommended Posts

I have STRUGGLED the whole six months of my band :-( Somedays I can eat, MOST days I can't! Yesterday I could eat an I was soooo happy. Today I can do NOTHING! I don't get it! I've only lost 21 lbs in 6 months. I can't get my fills right!

Have you gone in for a unfill? What are you eating? Some days 500 but what about other days? Are you journaling your food so you know how many calories you consume?

You could use a session with a nutritionist familiar with bariatric surgery. It's worth every penny. It was for me. I only lost 12 lbs the first 4 months and after my visit I've lost another 28 lbs.

Quite often if someone is tight and pb'ing a lot it is not uncommon to put on weight, thats because we get so desperate not to pb that we tend to eat more slider foods, also if you pb a lot this will make u swollen and the band will be tight for more time. I suggest u go back on a liquid diet for a few days and let your band and tummy settle down then introduce slowly mushies and then normal food again. u are caught in a cycle of pb'ing and swelling at the minute and it needs to change. After u go back onto normal food then decide if you need a slight unfill.

TMF is right too keep....... a food journal are u burning more calories than u are consuming because exercise is very important to the majority of us to lose weight, if u dont create a deficit then the scales wont budge !

good luck ..

As the others above stated, if you are PBing all the time and can't eat, you're too tight. I would suggest making an appointment with your surgeon to discuss your issues. I would also be sure to discuss what the band is and isn't supposed to feel like and do, so you're clear in the future.

What is ping?

Its PB'ing which stands for productive burping which is in effect regurgatitng food that is stuck above the band and wont go through the gap to your main stomach, it is normally in association with a lot of slimey saliva which is a reaction created by the oesophagus to help shift the blocked food ..

Thanks guys! I have an appt at 3:30 to get an unfill! Not sure how much she will take out! When someone is to tight how much do they usually take out?

Plus I'm not losing weight and on most days I can't even get 500 calories from PB'ing all the time!

What is PBing?

They might take out as little as .2-.3 cc's. You def. are to tight. My doctor says if you can't eat 3 oz of solid Protein you are too tight.

I don't have the PBing issue but for about the past week, I have one day where I feel like I could eat anything and everything (b/c I am so hungry). Then a couple days later, I can barely get in 800-1000 calories. I have an appt next week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
