MY pill wont go down

Recommended Posts

:help: I am in pain here. I feel like my pill is stuck in the back of my throat. It is causing me to dry heave (sp). I would be vomiting but I haven't anything in my stomach. I drinking a lot of Water to try to flush the pill down. It has been there for 1/2 hour. Any suggestions? I have vomitted before, however, this time it was different as nothing came up. I need this to be over real soon.

Thanks for anything!!!

Warm Water or warm tea. Sip, sip, sip. Try to keep the pill wet until it unsticks. If your stomach can tolerate it, try some light food to push the pill off your throat. Come back to the board and tell us how it goes OK?

I suggest a pill cutter or a pill crusher for future references.

In the meantime keep drinking something warm, tea, coffee, cocoa, it seems to help until it finally goes down.

Thankf for your suggestions. I ended up just taking a nap. When I woke up, the pain was gone. I never have problems taking any pills except for the ones that I must take everyday. They are not big. I wonder if they tend to give me the stuck feeling because I do break them in half. I wonder if the jagged edge is the problem?? I will invest in a pill splitter. Thanks again!!

All medications need to be the size of an aspirin or smaller. If not, they can get stuck, or sit against the stoma and cause a lot of damage until they eventually go thru. Take no chances. Get things in a liquid form, cut them up if possible, crush if needed and possible, or use a smaller size from another manufacturer. Glad you made it thru! Renee

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
