April 2006 Bandits

i am staying with my grandparents, they happen to live about 10 mins from where my surgery is. plus who can pass up that grandma babyin. my DH can't even hold a candle to her.

You are sooooooo lucky! The only grandparents I have left are the ones who have always made snide nasty comments about my weight. Nothing like being reminded everytime you see them that you are fat. And this started when I was nine. It was so nice when I was finally old enough to tell my parents that I wasn't going anymore because I couldn't seem to please them. Of course, not only do they think I'm fat, but I'm also the oldest grandchild and I haven't married yet. Just one big disappointment for them. :phanvan

I miss my grandparents that accepted me as I am. :think

Great list! Thanks! I don't have anything yet. :biggrin1: I can't believe it is 5 days to go.........geex it has come round so fast, remember when this thread started and it seemed so far away! Do you feel better or lost weight with the no carbs the last week or so?

thanx for the lists everyone, I can''t believe we have 25 people or scheduled, hopefully we will have lots of messages going strong in next few weeks with it all happening.

Yes, I am feeling a little nervous, but also glad of what I am doing, just getting so fed up being overweight and now I see a spot of light and hope on the horizon. Maybe I won't feel like this next week on the liquid diet though hehehe!!!:)

Talking about grandparents, my granny did the best scrambled eggs ever and I loved staying home sick from school to get them, hehe, and also the best toast!!! I was going to be in my new house after op, but doesn't look like it will be ready to be moved in so will stay with my mum also.........she will fuss over me I know as she is excited about this for me.Byeee for now!

i am sorry to hear about your grandparents treating you that way. that is how my father is. he comes back every summer and stays with me and drives me and my brother (who can't do anything right either) totally insane. he is always going on about what to eat and how to save money and so many other things that if i started listing them this would turn in a dr. phil show. it kills me too, because we are doing pretty well, plus i am a fricking nurse, i lecture people all day about diet and exercise. trust me i know what makes me fat and what the "right" foods are, how much exercise the amercian heart assoc. recommends...

emotional baggage: gotta love it!

Jen,

I learned a long time ago that the grandparents I have left are the crazy ones and now that I'm older, I really don't let it get to me anymore. I know what my accomplishments are and what I'm capable of doing. They are the ones who missed out on a terrific granddaughter. :)

Fiona,

Yes, it is only five days away and I can't believe it. Things are really beginning to pick up steam here. I have no idea if I've lost anything on this pre-op diet because it's PMS week and I retain Water like crazy. It will be like a dam burst when my period actually starts. Of course my scale could be totally off too and I have no idea what I actually weigh.

Check with your surgeon and find out if it's alright to crush them. You should be able to purchase an inexpensive pill cutter/crusher. I purchased one so that I can take my high blood pressure medicine which is kind of big. I don't want to take the chance of it getting stuck.

I could just cry......my doctor's office just called, they have to reschedule me .My doctor will be on vacation, so I can't have my surgery until April 24th. I know, it's only a week later but I was a week closer to my goal. Bummer

imt33167 sorry about your reschedule to May. I feel like we're in a black hole and every time we get to the edge to escape it pulls us right back in......too much Star Trek huh???

I'm so envious of you! I "had" my pre-op appointment scheduled today, but the surgeon called in sick and canceled, so the next appt I could get wasn't until the 12th of April. I had hoped to be banded on thh 14th, but thats out of the question now. They want us on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery - its a requirement. ugh - hurry up and wait....patience is something that I am slowly learning.

Hi John, I remember your post after your surgery. How are things going now that your 9 days out?

Roberta

Things are getting better each day. I was having a bit of a problem with diarreha :guess and the doctor said it was probably too much Protein Shake. He gave me permission to stop drinking the nasty stuff for a few days.:) And guess what, it's getting better.

I have lost more weight in the last week then I have ever lost in a weeks period. I will not tell ya'll how much because ya'll still haven't had your procedure and I don't want you to get jealous. LOL Hint: weight loss is the square root of 64 times 2.

:clap2:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
