Hysterectomy Surgery With Lap-Band

Recommended Posts

It has been a while. I have been banded since 02/2008 and at my lowest weight ha lost 111 lbs. I had thyroid cancer that was caught by my lap-band doctor when I put on 30 lbs in a few months and had trouble swallowing. I am now down 86 lbs but struggle to lose again. I had to have an unexpected surgery in May and didn't even think about what effects it might have on my band. I am in my 6th week f recovery and I have started feelig like my band is too tight. I can drink slowly but most all foods just find their way back up. It is not horribly painful like the "stuck" feelig but lots of pressure. I have days I can eat anythig and days I can't swallow my own spit. It is very bothersome and I worry that it could be something more. Thinking of going back on liquids for a few days and seeing if it helps any. Has anyone else had a surgery like this that an share the effects on the band? Also, what did you do to jump start the weight loss again after everythig settled down? Thanks for the support and advice. ;)

Similar experience. My band got through a few surgeries and chemoradiation for rectal cancer empty and the worst that occurred was i struggled to find good restriction again - although a big factor here is that at over six years banded, when you think youre eating a lot youre really not! Anyway, i filled back up and then found out i needed abdominal repair for ventral and inguinal hernias after having had n ileostomy for nine months.

My band surgon said dont unfill so i didnt.

Since the Tummy Tuck the pressure in my abdomen from the newly repaired and tightened muscles has caused increased band tightness but not to the point Id call "tight" and constant heartburn. Ive had a smll unfill which hlped somewhat. But my poor pelvic floor also! It got though major pelvic surgery, radiation and three *** babies but the added pressure fro my tight stomach - thank god no prolpses but i now hav obstructed defecation. I have no rectum, its a created "pouch" and badiclly, without jose push muscles i am totally laxative dependent right now, i also find urinating difficult.

So..... Yes. Surgeties can have very unexpected side effects!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
