I'm really curious to see how many people went, how many times and if they went after the operation.

I went about 5 times, once a month to see mine before the surgery. BCBS had a rule about 6months but it stopped in January and I still chose to go.

Working with her I concentrated first in what I was eating, not how much. We figured out my triggers (boredom), downfalls (not planning) and that I had to see food as fuel for my body and not a reward. After we did these steps then we worked in size.

I felt really ready for the liquid duet and am ready now for all the stages and the rest if my life. I plan on following the 90/10 rule with food because that's what I feel I can manage and achieve success with.

Today I had my first post op visit (I get my first fill in 2 weeks!!) And right after I met with my nutritionist. I love seeing her, she keeps ne accountable and is a tool for my goal. She helps me with menus and recipes too.

For the mushies stage instead if regular mashed potatoes I am making mashed cauliflower potatoes which are soooo yummy and way better for you.

Does anyone have a nutritionist they see/saw that is helping them? She sends our dayone group recipes, food and has a support group. It's helping me, how bout you guys?

I love cauliflower mashies! I'm excited to eat them when I get to my Mushies stage. I met with my nutritionist on Monday as part of my pre-op visit. She's AWESOME! We went through all the phases of my eating/recovery, and food sizes and all of that. She is always available to me via email (weekends and holidays) and then I can call if I really need her. I will see her on Tuesday when I go in for surgery on Tuesday.

Good Luck on your journey.

I met with the dietitian who works in conjunction with my surgeon's practice several times pre op, and then attended a 3 hour education class she conducted just prior to my surgery date.

I have her contact information should I want to speak with her or email her.

I have not felt the need to continue to consult with her, as I prefer to plan my own menus and keep everything basic and simple.

She was an excellent resource, and also part of my success post op definitely came from the education she provided. All patients who are having bariatric surgery should be required to meet with a dietitian pre op so that they are able to understand proper nutrition for a bandster!

I LOVE MY NUTRITIONIST! She has been the key to making it all make sense.

I had to switch after my first one (associate with the surgeon) was a knucklehead. My new one is also in the same office and I think they keep her hidden because she's so great and they don't want the other one to be out of a job. (OK. I'm just wild guessing here. But seriously. If you knew the woman, you'd know what I mean!)

My new nutritionist is a myfitmesspal friend so she keeps me honest! She is a true partner for me and that's what I really need.

its a great support network you have. i had one visit with my nutritionalist and she cost a lot. it can't be claimed on medicare so ive only been once. i got a great recipe book from her... talked about things generally and she taught me a lot. I'm not sure though that i will go back. I'm losing weight and not having any issues so whats the point? i feel like I'm wasting my money right now.

I eat"whatever i want" which doesnt mean I dont eat healthy! Eating whatever you want desnt necessatily mean you eat lots of junk.

I think the whole nutritionist thing is personality dependent and that its GREAT if you find having a supportive tool. Keep it up!

Me and nutritionists ...... meh. Its not my scene. I am very negative towards the whole idea of paying for information I already know, both in terms of my behaviour and what i should eat. I get really pissed off at being given photocopied information too. I had to see a dietician just after surgery for the full liquid, mushies to solids routine and that was necessary and helpful, she was good but very rude and disparaging about my goals, warning me id never achieve it. Dumb woman, i smahed my original goal out of the park.

Ive since had to go during pelvic radiation for cancer, not articularly helpful nd now ive got an appointment in a few weeks to see if i can improve my bowel function, im going purely coz my surgeon wants me too. I already know what she'll tell me - metamucil. I lready know that neither my guts nor my lapband tolerate it. I know she'll want me o eat more, not understanding my band. I already know I wont follow that advice. I hav a TERRIBLE attitde, im on the defence and i havent even been yet. Im stubborn and hate being told what to do. It cant work with my negative attitude.

..and i understand where you are coming from. im a good cook, and i understand nutrition. Plus being online here in the forum is a learning curve all the time. I dont think i will be visiting with my nutritionalist anymore. i will keep her number just in case i come up against an issue i dont think i can handle.. but really.... i know about food. plus we talk about everything on here and we all learn. i honestly do begrudge paying out money for advice when i dont really need it. the one visit i had was good... i appreciated it, but thats all.

Another thing which i think is important if one is going to be positive and successful in this lifestyle. if i want a scone, i will have it. If i want some crisps i will have them. if i want some bickies and cheese i will have some. just not in big quantities. Being able to have these foods means that i dont get frustrated and i never feel that im missing out. To me, thats the heart of the matter... to be satisfied with what you can eat.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
